Yogurt....Bad to eat on a relatively clean bulk??

I'm currently on a pretty clean bulk. I eat about 12 oz of nonfat yogurt a day. Bad idea?

yes, yogurt is very good for a clean bulk.

great source of: protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B 12.

compared to milk, yogurt has more calcium and protein due to the active cultures.

the active cultures may boost your immune system, reduce cortisol levels, and possibly protect against cancer.

they also encourage the right kind of bacteria to multiply in the gut which help to digest food and prevent stomach infections.

non-fat yogart is excellent for getting the benefits without the added calories and cholesterol

not only does it do all this but it also increases nitrogen retention and is usually pretty cheap. I use strained or greek style yogurt all the time to make a dressing for chicken and beef. Its one of my favorites.

I love yogurt - Greek style is my fave too but more expensive. The sugars contained in yogurt never seem to do any harm, infact it seems to help me stay a bit leaner.

I have read somewhere that a good amount of the sugar is broken down by the probiotics and enzymes, so a lot of it doesn't get absorbed or stored. I will try to find the article again, i believe it was on t-nation.

I often had 0.5 or 1 cup of FF Yogurt to my shakes for extra flavour and texture. It's great for a clean bulk like many have stated.

On a slight side note, I picked up two tubs of kefir today that is almost like yogurt that I'm going to try instead of the yogurt. Some of the health benefits from kefir really interested me.

Generally yes. Eat up, but check the labels first though for fat/sugar content

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm glad to hear I don't have to cut out Yogurt. I love the stuff. I just heard that it is to high in sugar and that Cottage Cheese is a better option. I can stomach LFCC from time to time but I'd much rather pound a nice big bowl of vanilla yogurt with some fresh blueberries, strawberries,Raspberries or pinneapple....yum.

Oh if you are comparing to cottage cheese then definitely drop the yogurt. Try some friendship brand 1% whipped with a little splenda and then tell me what you think about your yogurt. Just to clearify too plain yogurt is good the sweetened depending on the brand is really not great but it definitely can fit into your plan if you want it to.

In my opinion Cottage Cheese is an aquired taste. Some people love the stuff while other's dry heave at the thought of it. I'll admit I've never tried the brand you are talking about but I have a very hard time believing its anywhere near as good or as palatable as even the drabest, plainest non fat yogurt. I could never eat cottage cheese consistently. When I do eat it I have to shovel it down so damn quick that I don't get a chance to really taste it.
I'm a newcomer but one thing I've noticed when reading alot of the posts on here about food is that people tend to overexaggerate how good something tastes. What they really mean to say is "It tastes good for how healthy and beneficial it is." For example I read a post on a cottage cheese thread where the guy said if you mixed strawberry yogurt with Cottage Cheese it would taste just like cheese cake. Well I tried it and it tasted tolerable but absolutely nothing like cheesecake.
What he meant to say is..."It tastes like cheesecake if you are crazed and deprived from cutting"

Ha funny... Its amazing how good things taste after cutting.
I seriously recommenced the whipped cottage cheese though I think you will be surprised, it is much better than normal CC and has a great nutritional profile. Worst case scenario you are out two dollars. Anyways good luck on the lean bulk man.

thanks. I'll give it a try for sure. Thanks for the advice. I might try substituting one of my daily servings of yogurt with a serving of CC if it proves to be tolerable.
