Quantity over Quality
Here's a little bulking tip for some people who need them. Eat eat and eat some more! Yes everyone says it and yes everyone is tired of hearing it but people still ask what to do to bulk up. Try to eat a large amount of food, yes the quality is important too. And in a perfect world you'd get both great quality and quantity. But when bulking focus on amount. Shove a few snickers bars in your pie hole from time to time. Eat your deserts. Bulking you can pretty much cheat diet all u want.
Keep your workouts short and intense and somewhat infrequent.
Don't be afraid of some fat!

But quality and quantity are easily achieved.
And I dont think snickers bars are the answer.

The sad thing is I bet that book would sell really well.

Snickers arent the answer to everything I was just saying if your bulking than do it. Dont walk pass a vending machine without getting something. Never really miss oppurtunites to eat is what im saying. Even if its not super hydrolyzed whey or great chicken salad. It may be a brownie and ice cream but still eat it.

Snickers isn't half a bad idea, can stimulate appetite receptors I believe.

Listen, buy the EAT THIS NOT THAT Book, anyway, Listen, You should still stick to whole foods, and good protein powders and gainers. Yes, eat plenty of food, but good food. Watch the additives, and trans fats. High fructose corn syrup and processed foods. etc. You want to be healthy, and keep your body running strong. Lots of beef, chicken, fish, pasta bread, peanut butter, rice, veggies, fruit, etc. whey, casein, ice cream, milk. Its a process. However, when you diet down, its not easy if you cheat so much because it makes it harder to eat clean and your body has to detox from all the crap you fed it. Think about it.

LOL, Yeah thats crazy right. I avoid vending machines. I am so hungry rightnow. I have duty on my ship and its about dinner time. I left my two meals for between meals in the galley on the counter at home today, and I cant leave the ship to get them. So, its send someone to subway time. Stay hungry my friends

I was in those shoes during my ships last deployment and I would run out of protein powder before mail would come again, and I would be up at 0130 am to stand watch starving. I would make a pack or 2 of instant grits, w/butter and sugar and eat it. I would eat what I could find. However, I gained unwanted bodyfat, and have been working it off since my return. It was frustrating, but I understand the desperation.

I was "Bulking" Since I started working out- not until I gave up on eating clean did I actually gain a good amount of weight!
I think he's going by the principle that NOTHING is off limits: So long as your getting the calories to gain weight!
It's the right bulking mentality! Yes, I've gained fat, and I am still a smaller guy- but I've gained 1" on almost every muscle measurement in the past 5 months just eating anything- NEVER let yourself be hungry!
I'll cut eventually, but not til I'm in the 200lbs range..

It's not so hard to bulk eating healthy foods. It just may not be as tasty as a snickers...
Fats are full of calories- try taking an extra virgin olive oil shot or two. 1oz of EVOO has 237 calories. Want something a little more tasty? Go for coconut oil, avocado, nuts. It's not that hard to get healthy calories in. Just find nature's healthy calorie dense foods.

Babywifey, that is some sound advice. It isnt that hard to say add some natty peanut butter to a smoothie, or some olive oil, or flax oil, or coconut. etc. I eat a lot of beef, but lower fat. Almonds, pecans, and such. I just dont want to get fat anymore.

I would also take full advantage of the anabolic window post training. I used to use AFTER MAX by ON, and shower. Then I would eat till I was FULL, and just lay on the couch after that. Jay Cutler has said the same thing. Your body can really absorb the calories since you just got done training.

Biggest guy at my gym told me he eats chocolate every night, he's not fat either.
I just don't like chocolate. Nothing wrong with it though.

If you are eating chocolate for it's "benefits", I'd suggest making yourself a cup of homemade hot cocoa instead. All it takes is milk, stevia and powdered cocoa. You can get your chocolate fix without the unnecessary, unhealthy sugar.

Quantity over Quality??? HMMMM, that is an interesting point that you bring up. I am completely against this. I am completely against shoveling in candy bars or eating potato chips because you want calories. Might possibly be the most ignorant statement of the year so far. If I am a machine, and I grow off nutrients wouldn't I want the BEST nutrients, If I eat 25 snickers bars in one day because i was stuck somewhere and all they had was snickers there is not going to be ANY benefits from that BUT -- If I eat 2 smalls meals of chicken and possibly a potato, I am going to eat less calories, but I gaurantee you I will see better results..........

wow you couldnt pay me to eat a snickers bar. i understand some questionable foods like macNcheese, burgers. why would you wanna stuff yourself with HFCS, hydrogenated oils, etc???? if you honestly dont have the dedication to eat a full diet of whole foods with a suprlus of 500-1000 cal then dont bother. this isnt a battle against your body, showing it whos the boss by over eating $hit.
another thing, why not gain lean weight? Ive increased my cals in the past 3 weeks and Im 5 pounds heavier, on the scale and in the mirror. no added bodyfat, still 6pack abs.
I think its an idiots approach to junk up vending machine style and then have to cut fat. why not take your time and slowly gain lean mass?
"eat your desserts" LOL so we should eat a good quality meal followed by essential supps (fishoil, vitamins, minerals) just so we can top it off with a big a$$ piece of cake?? fat kid's guide to fitness

The power lifters bulk; 1lb morning bacon, chocolate bars sporadically throughout the day and the nearest kid walking down the street if there are no chocolate bars around.
I'm an unwilling bulker, my problem is trying to remain lean, I hate it.

The bulk is impatient to me. I have learned that besides the post workout meal, and pre workout meal, there is no reason to be a glutton. In addition, there is no excuse for eating junk. Are you trying to build muscle or a gut??? Be careful. I had my post workout shake, and then went to eat @ Natural style chicken in San diego. Natural wood fire rotisserie chicken boneless, skinless, with rice, and small green salad. I did have teryaki sauce, but not much, and a TBSP of ranch dressing. You have to have the mindset, and determination to be a bodybuilder. Its 24/7

wow, i dont think most of you know how to bulk, im looking through at most of you who are raggin" on this guy for saying eat snickers and what not and most of you are a measily buck 90. id say spend less time on the comp and go eat some more. you can rag on me for saying that all you want but you can argue my stats im a solid 250 at 5 foot 9 and im only 21. and guess what, i just ate a snickers....
if your trying to bulk up dont be affriad of "bad food" dont make it staples in your diet but if its an off day got eat a whole pizza and stop b****ing about it. if your eating a steak throw some sauce on it. if your drinking a shake through some oil in it. if you need to sauce something up to make it tast better than sauce it up. look at ronnie or jay, or branch or dorian during there offseasons. do any of you think they got that high of a bodyfat by eating as clean as you all are suggesting. i think not.

I am not a buck 90. I am 6-1 235 and not fat. I am not preaching perfection. I am in the navy and when we deploy, I cannot bring all kinds of food. I eat what they cook. I just substitute shakes when needed. This is not to criticize him, but critique his diet to aid him in adding LBM. I am nearly 35 years old, and am a fitness leader on board a navy ship. I Help a lot of people do the same thing, and the same for losing weight.

yeah but you just said you 6 foot 1. youre tall. you could try to argue youre average height but youre not. your tall, so when youre taller you weigh more. not saying you didnt work for you 235 lbs frame, just saying its harder for a smaller man to weigh they same.
but besides that, You say you guys arent criticizing him, then i dont think telling him "april fools...?" and other guys saying "you cant give bulking advice at 180ish", and saying "ill see better results than you if i dont eat snickers" is very helpful.
you also say your all trying to help him at LBM. hes talking about a bulk. Of course adding LBM is ideal but bulking and cutting are two different phases. Ill watch someone try to get bigger while trying to keep there bf low as possible and ill blow past them keeping mine around 15% and then cutting down. Plus our muslce grow from carrying that extra weight on your frame, your body expands. im closing in on 21 inch claves from carrying my new frame around and guess what? im not fat either.
you also say your a fitness instructor, at every gym i have EVER been to, atleast 2 gym instructers from each have asked me what my diet is and what my routine is for being my size at my age.

I am not bashing you. I just dont want you bashing me. I am not huge, but I will be getting bigger this year. I had already started dieting down for a show this year, but my navy schedule would not permit it yet. I am back to gaining for now, but my schedule is very demanding. I am at sea a lot, and I may only get 3 meals in, and 3 shakes. Its not exactly a calorie surplus. I am holding some mass though, and not fat. You are doing great. I wish i was 21 again. I would be huge. Good luck

i am not bashing you, i was defending the one who started this post. im not saying his title was the best or appropriate even, but his message was sound. eating clean during a bulk is OK, but i dont advocate it at all and much better gaines can be made if the doors are opened up. like i said earlier, the pros didnt get that big from eating chicken breast and sweet potatoes. they ate crap aswell. alot of it is on film. of course they dont say so in the magazines but half that stuff is b.s. watch the documentary "bigger stronger faster". it shows how those before and after pics are done in one day and how most supps arent even supps, there just "proprietary blend". jay cutler even admits to steroids on film. but thats no secret. my point is eating pizza burgers and whatever should not be avoided but embraced. if you feel differently thats fine. you have your reasons and i have mine. thanks for the "good luck" i also wish you good luck aswell in your show.

Bro, I ate 2 doughnuts today. Its all good. I just eat good most of the time until the diet starts. We are clear now. I saw the movie Bigger stronger faster twice. Its great. It really opens up your eyes on things. I want to be bigger and have less fat. I hate that they are getting rid of what I could use to gain muscle. I want back the stuff they banned in 2004, and the stuff that just went too. It blows.
