I just saw this -- I was diagnosed in 2004 with having an aneurysm of my ascending aorta -- I was completely freaked out for about three weeks, till a thoracic surgeon looked at it, said the tissue was neither stretched nor uneven, and asked if I'd done a lot of weightlifting when I was younger. "Yeah", I replied, not sure where he was going.
"Did you do heavy singles? Deadlifts? Squats?"
"Yeah"
"You don't have an aneurysm," he said, "what you have is an athletic adaptive development -- your aorta grew to match the stress you were putting on it at a time when you hit a growth spurt. As long as it stays stable, you have no problems."
My aorta is about 4.3 cm -- most people's is around 2.5 cm. It's been stable for 5 years now, with no change. Check with a specialist used to sports medicine on almost anything related to your cardiovascular system. Your average general practitioner doesn't know squat (or deads, or benches <grin>).
My own doctor told me I was working way too hard in the gym for someone age 54, coming out of back surgery -- then I lost 43 pounds in six months and brought my own BP down to 109/58, without meds. He shut up.
Good luck, bro!
