Monday while doing my last set of squats my knee popped. I immediately racked the weight as my leg almost gave out. Now a few days later my knee pops when I stretch my leg. It feels fine all day when I’m on it but now that I’m relaxing it feels like it’s stiffening up and there’s a sharp pain. Any ideas?

It would depend on the specific location of the pain, but you should see a physical therapist asap. If the pain is either directly above or below your knee on the tendon, it is likely tendonitis which can be cured with rehab and also fixing poor movement patterns which caused it in the first place.

If there’s sharp pain at a certain ROM stop doing that. Determine if it’s pain in your joint line(meniscus), knee cap, inside the middle of the knee, or the back of the knee. Ice sharp pains of the knee and surrounding muscles. Don’t fully extend your leg if that’s where the most intense discomfort is. Give it a few more days and if it persists go see your orthopedic specialist.

PT would have been great if you only had some muscular pain or weakness. There was a mechanism for injury and while it seemed minor it was there. Nows the time to be cautious first then test the limits later.

I know this is late well here it is, in my view hack squats put pressure on the knee. Barbell squats do not if you go low. Almost ATG. Lose the weight on the bar and go low and all of the weight will be on your glutes, hamstrings, back and off your knees.

Is your knee cap tracking? Iv experienced this as well when I severed my acl and meniscus and acl the first time and what your describing was the pain felt specifically cause of my meniscus did you twist or anything when stepping out with the weight? I pray you didn’t tear anything cause it’s hard to full recover from but like everyone is saying see a doc a mri isn’t a bad idea if it’s a slight tear you don’t want push it and tear it worse I went through the same thing when I tried not to use the leg and rest it the leg would tighten up bad and wouldn’t move very well and pay attention to your calf if it starts to swell and is extremely painful then you’ve developed a hematoma from the trauma Iv learnt this from experience unfortunately
