Lower Back Injuries...

I just went to the Dr. today for yet another lower back injury. At 37yrs old, this is getting quite frustrating. I love my dead lifts and am starting to enjoy the squats, but these injuries keep popping up at least 3-5 times a year and usually keep me out for a week.

What do you guys do to keep your back in shape to do heavy lifting?

By the way, I am currently doing the DC regiment and find it to be very effective… although painful, and… I use a belt with anything that would put significant strain on my back.

I'm in the same boat/same age. Here is what I've found helpful:

1.) Reverse Hyperextensions (built my own).

2.) Regular 45 degree back raises

3.) Ironmind Hip Belt Squat

4.) Trap Bar deadlifts

I think you'll find the Ironmind Hip Belt affordable, effective and a VERY nice alternative to regular back squats. If nothing else it keeps the vertical loading on the spine manageable (i.e. deads only vs. deads + regular back squats). Buy an EZ curl bar to use with it or use your gym's and you're off to the races.
