yet another fat boy log

BigBoss29

Board Supporter
I am just into my second week on the Deluxe Weight Loss Program. Sorry for the late start to the log, but I just moved so I gots no net at home and the fascists at work have everything that is not work related blocked so I couldn't post from there.

Background: 31 y/o with about 13 years of lifting experience. Had been watching my weight creep up steadily over the last few years and decided to get on the Bobo program to get things under control.

Workouts so far have gone very well. Like most here, the rest periods were a bit longer than I was used to. It also took a bit of discipline to maintain the directed cadence on each exercise. I now have the workouts wickered pretty well and am usually done in an hour or less (not including the cardio) even with the longer rest periods. Worst thing that has happened so far was that I forgot to do my crunches one day because the last line of that workout was on another page. Oh well, lesson learned on that one. Otherwise, so far so good.

The diet was a bit surprising at first - I was really surprised to see how many calories I would be taking in every day. But I stuck to it and have actually come to enjoy it a little bit. I am saving a ton of money beacuse I used to eat out all the time. Now I pack my cooler every morning and move out. I think my body has actually gotten used to it. I practically had to force myself to take the cheat meal, and when I did it ended up being almost the same as one of the meals on Bobo's menu. I figured I would be having all sorts of cravings by now, but that hasn't happened yet. Overall, I would say that I have been 95% or better. The only things that have gone wrong so far with the diet:

- Forgot to take my vitamins one night.

- Forgot to eat the mozzarella with one meal.

- Fired half-mixed protein all over my kitchen when I shook the bottle and the lid wasn't all the way on...C'mon I know I am not the only one who has done this. Seems like it happens about once a year. And you never stop after that first shake. It always seems to go down kind of like when you lock your keys in the car and you sort of know you are doing it but continue to shut the door anyway. So it took a moment or two to click that I was spraying the crap all over the place. Old lady counseled me for making the kitchen look like something out of CSI, but other than that it was OK.

So what's happened:

6/19: 250 lbs

6/26: 248 lbs

Even though it is just two pounds I swear I can already see and feel the difference in my body, and it is quite motivating.

I made the mistake of hopping on the scale midway through the first week and about freaked when I was up to 253. Luckily I found out from reading all the other logs that this was quite common. New resolution is to not go anywhere near a scale except on the last day of the week.

My questions so far:

1. Can I sub elliptical or treadmill for the bike as long as I maintain the prescribed HR?

2. Spacing of the meals? Is there a general rule such as "Never wait longer than X amount of time between meals, and never eat any two meals any closer than Y amount of time together." Also, what is the general guidance on the pre- and post- meals? Is that like chow down in the parking lot on the way in and do the same on the way out? Or is there some tolerance there, say maybe within an hour on each side?

3. What is the amount of protein in grams that we are looking for when my diet planner says 1 scoop?

4. My workouts run through 2 JUL. I assume the diet is going to stay the same as long as the results continue, but what about the workouts? Should I expect a new batch or just start over on day 1?

Thanks. Will try to keep the updates more regular from here on out.

1. That is fine.

2. Frequency should be between 2-3 hours. Try to not to go over 3-4 hours.

3. 20-28g

4. Yes, it says on the notes on the back. Week 1 is used for week 3,5,7 etc... and vice versa for week 2. The diet I will change when its needs to be based on your progress.

Overall it sounds like you are doing well. 2lbs in a week is great so far.

This week's update...

7/3: 246 lbs

Weights are steadily climbing with each workout. I also find that I am having to raise the levels on the cardio to get to the prescribed HR almost every session. So I guess things are working.

Still very motivated. I can really tell that I am losing this weight the right way. Pants are getting looser. And I am really noticing the changes in the mirror. In fact I was a bit surprised that I had only lost another two pounds this week because it looks like I have already lost more wieght than I really have.

Cheat meal last night was pretty mundane and once again pretty close to what was on the menu to begin with. Not really interested in throwing a wrench in my momentum anyway!

7/10: 244 lbs

Another good week as far as I am concerned. I am actually surprised that I did not weigh in much lighter given what I had been observing in the mirror throughout the week. I guess that is an indicator that we are peeling things off in the right places.

Seem to be over the hump of adjusting to the tempo and increased volume. I was able to up the weights on almost all exercises again this week.

I think there is a worldwide conspiracy to prevent me from getting a real cheat meal. I went out to eat last night and it looked like Bobo wrote the menu. I ended up with the special for the evening which happened to be...fish with steamed broccoli. I can't escape!

Only question this week: Is a beer or two with the cheat meal acceptable?

Looking forward to another good week!

A beer or two is acceptable (but remember that acohol is the WORST thing for fat loss) but it looks like you are progressing just fine.

A few bad workouts in the last week. Just switched jobs at work and my schedule was in flux. Did not miss any meals or workouts, but had to drop calves off one workout in order to meet time restraints.

Still on with the diet. No issues this week.

Did not have a chance to weigh in on SUN 7/17. I usually use one certain scale at my gym and weigh in after the pre-workout meal. I couldn't do it under the same conditions on SUN since I was at a different gym and I put it off until today.

Hopped on the scale today under the same conditions...

7/20: 239.5

Not sure why the loss has accelerated a bit, but I am definitely not complaining. I think a bit of it might be water intake. I know there were at least two days in the last week that I probably did not drink enough. Will work on that this week. Otherwise, strength continues to improve and I am still able to increase poundages at least a few pounds on each workout. Continuing to notice the changes to my physique and remaining very motivated. My body looks better at this weight than it did when I was much lighter than I am now.

Two other good things that happened this week:

- Bumped into a friend at the gym that I had not seen in about a year and he immediately complimented me on my physique. "Toned up quite a bit" were the words he used.
- I have a favorite pair of shorts that no longer fit at the beginning of this summer. The shock of not being able to get into them was one of my main motivations to do something about my weight and go on this program. I can now fit into them again.

This week's questions:

1) How much is too much on the diet soda before it starts to count as a stim? I've been downing about 3-4 a day.

2) Is it normal for some clients to stay on the same diet throughout the program without having to tweak it at all?

7/24: 238 lbs

All still seems to be going well.

Bobo - when you get a chance...still looking for answers to the two questions I posted a few days ago.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

1. 3-4 a day are fine.

2. Not normal at all. I don't think I have had one that consistently reported that never had any changes.

Sounds like you are doing GREAT!

7/31: 235.5 lbs

Today was first day of week 7 and I am down 14.5 lbs since start. The diet really seems to have kicked in over the last few weeks. I hopped on the scale earlier this week (against my better judgement) and I was a little paranoid that I was about stall out. But things seem to have corrected themselves for the best.

Quite pleased with everything. Got a few more compliments this week so that has kept me motivated as well.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Back on the program

Had to take almost a month off due to some short notice travel that was required for work. I did not have access to either a gym nor was I able to manage my diet very well.

Upon departure...8/5: 232
Upon return...8/29: 232

So 7 weeks in I was -18 lbs from start of the plan! On top of that, I didn't gain any weight in the three weeks off, and I have to admit that although I did my best under the circumstances my diet was pretty far from clean.

A month off of any previous diet would have had me rebounding something fierce. I got to hand it to Bobo. I was so impressed with the changes that I have decided to stay on with him until I meet my goals.

As of last SUN, I have resumed using the same diet and training plan as before. Very interested to see what happens after this first week back on the plan.

Bobo, let me know if there are any changes necessary based on the fact that I am picking up again after a month off. (I think that I will be setting some sort of record if I still continue to lose considering that we did not tweak at all during the first seven weeks).

No changes until you get back into it again. Go until this Sunday then give me a report and we will go from there.

Bobo,

Sorry for the delay in replying and updates. My diet was messed up the first week since my last post and I didn't think it appropriate to post or ask for advice until I dialed in...Now I have kept everything strict for the last few weeks and I seem to be stuck.

SEND HELP!!!

I am plateaued at 229-231. Been floating there for the last few weeks. (Sent my month-to-moth continuation on paypal.)

Thanks.
