UFC 105 Lesner vs. Carwin

damn it !!!! This sucks !!
Carwin's twitter account says it will likely take place on UFC 108 but who will fill the main card spot for 106????

maybe he ate some bad meat or has H1N1...either way this card is worse now. I hope they push the fight back and not try to throw someone at carwin so he can fight Brock soon still.

I doubt they would put this on TV, but would be nice if they did. Im not going to go to a bar and see it or order. I think the ads and them only playing 4-5 fights usually now is bull.

It's rumored for 108. That would be the Super Bowl card and is already really good.

no i didn't check any of the posts, i saw it and posted it, i don't care about lesnar and carwin....ufc is straight garbage these days, i'm still interested but i could care less who fights....mma had it's chance to shine and now it's just puke

Interesting when we see this comment on an MMA forum... If you don't care for who fights, why discuss about it?

"I don't like to have sex, I just like to see how well my weenor fits in certain things."

i'm not discussing it, i merely read that lesnar was out so i posted it, i wasn't about to read 5 pages to see if anyone else had posted it yet....and it's not that i don't like mma, i used to be into it, but the fights lately have been awful

I'm curious: what makes the fights so "awful?" As with every sport, some cards/events are better than others, but I cannot complain about MMAs direction and quality. While I am not a fan of the UFC business model or their hype machine, they're doing a damn good job of constantly supplying fights that people want to see. There have been some amazing fights this year and anyone that complains about them is just a whiny, pain in the ass.

I can't stand the people who dont know the difference of Martial Arts and Fighting. I tell my friend about MMA and how I train and UFC and he shoots me down and bashes it cuz of how obsessed he is about martial arts and how he says the best dont fight in the ring and for money. Seriously I can't stand it. Most of the stuff he shows me wouldnt work unless I was pretty drunk. I respect it and I dont go out and bash it. I think its beautiful and a great thing but when you say these 50 year old guys could take any pro MMA guy its pathetic. Sorry I just had to say that jsut cuz the UFC hater came in here. WE all think parts of the UFC are lame and Dana is annoying but we also enjoy many of the things it brings us.

So apparently Anthony "Rumble" Johnson didn't get in enough fighting this past Saturday. He is said to be fighting Josh Koscheck.

I am personally pulling for Rumble. He looked big as hell Saturday. I wonder if he can make weight since he was 6 pounds over for the last weigh in.

I put it to you Gotti that you wouldn't know a good fight if it kicked you in the balls.

He better be on an all lettuce diet till then.

he said he injured his knee training and got a little heavy as a result. probably eating the same and not working out twice a day. he usually has no problems making weight

But what was your purpose on coming to an MMA forum then in the first place? :scratchchin:

I mean I heard that too but did u see him? And it isn't like he is a short guy at 6'1". I think he is giving Alves a run for his money for most jacked looking welterweight.

hahah yea man, big dude. im guessing since his camp knew ahead of time that he wouldnt make weight and would have to give up $$, he ate some more and got even more swoleeee lol

Idk what they decided but it def made more sense to just lose some cash and win rather than killing himself for those 6 extra pounds when he cut so much already.

Lol ok didn't want to say this before I was sure but I went to a wrestling tournment at Anthony's old high school last year. I wish I would have known he was from Dublin then so I could see if he was on their(which I am pretty sure he is).

I was not surprised to see that at all. Two and a half weeks prior to his fight, Josh Thompson said that Anthony just weighed himself and he weighed 225 lbs!!!!!!! I grew up a wrestler so cutting weight is nothing new to me. But how in the hell can somebody lose 49 pounds in two and a half weeks? On top of that, Anthony is a pretty cut dude.

I know that is crazy how much weight he cut. There was no way the other guy had a chance. Anthony is way to strong, fast, and has a solid enough wrestling background to stop takedowns. Man that is some serious dedication that is all I can say.

I just wish he was farther along in his fight career. It would be interesting to see him fight GSP when he has fine tuned his skills more.

he needs 2 more wins to fight gsp id say. id love to see him clean everything up and beat gsp. i have loved anthony johnson forever. also i am confused dont koscheck and johnson train together? thats awkward they are fighting.

Anthony Johnson is explosive and entertaining, but he has nothing novel or unique to offer GSP, nor is his skill-set superior to GSP's prior opponents with comparable skill sets. In terms of the proper application of aggressiveness, octagon control and technique, for example, I would choose T. Alves over A. Johnson in regard to striking; particularly considering I think MT matches up better against GSP than a primarily kickboxing approach. In terms of wrestling, either Fitch, Hughes or Koschek have both superior pedigrees, as well as success in transitioning to MMA. AJ may be the one WW to match GSP in athleticism, but it would be a punishing five-round decision for GSP.

I said it might be interesting not that he would win. He def brings excitement when he fights since he is so explosive. GSP already showed he can handle a bigger fighter than himself but it would still be interesting and might give a better idea how he would fair against Anderson since that would be closer to the size Anderson possess because that height advantage is BIG. Not that I think GSP and Anderson will fight more of a hypothetical situation.

yeah i didnt say he would win. i think anthony johnson is going to show us every fight he has more. Thiago alvez got dominated, idont think AJ would. I think that if someone were to catch gsp again like matt serra caught him it would be jonhson now kos or fitch or thiago. I think mike swick could catch him but its a 1-10 odds lol. i dig the 170 class and cant wait to see dan hardy and the rest of these AKA guys get better. i hope they evolve more and come up with good game plans. any word on gsp's next opponent?

Good points, though my post was not addressed to you.

Ah, I see. I misinterpreted when you said, "clean everything up and beat gsp". At least for now, catching GSP in that fashion, like the first instance it occurred, would require more of a lapse on GSP's part - rather than the relative striking ability of his opponent. GSP nullified Thiago's MT-game by dominating him in grappling, and there is really nothing to suggest AJ's TD-defense is any better than Thiago's, nor is his wrestling any better than Fitch, Hughes, Kos, etc. As for Swick, Hardy, etc., I am really just uninterested at GSP fighting at 170 any longer; none of those fights would be competitive, at least in the traditional sense of the word.

again i'm not trying to hate on mma or the ufc, dana is a jackass but he really should teach some marketing classes in local colleges because he's damn good at it, i'm just saying the fights recently haven't grabbed my attention or seem to have the excitment that they used to, Rodja, take a look at the picture on ur profile, as much as i wasn't a fan of him, if you watched his fight you knew there was going to be fireworks, i don't feel that theres to many fighters like that anymore, on the other hand ufc does make me a lot of money because it's so easy to bet on haha

How Wand fights is rare because his style is very much attribute driven (aggression, good chin) and those attributes wither away with time, as evidenced by his recent 1-5 run. Brawlers aren't going to be champions in this era because the technique has improved immensely in the past 5 years.

Also, it is not easy to bet on the UFC; there were several upsets (Struve, Sonnen) and the line on Shogun was between a +300-350. We all know that Shogun should have won that fight as well.

yeah i didn't touch the last fight, or sonnen, but i did make bank on jardine vs lidell, and if the line is really bad, i can usually find someone who will bet me straight up and thats where the money is at

Mullet, I was talking about swick and hardy not really fighting GSP and if they do i hope its a few years down the road. I was not impressed with thiago's MT at all witrh GSP. Gsp could out kickbox him. Thiago is a great striker but i think he did good against not as good opponents and a much slower matt hughes. I think that kos or fitch could beat thiago(kos more notice) along with AJ. I think these AKA fighters need to improve before fighting GSP again but i think gsp should only stick around for 1 or 2 more title defenses in 170. maybe go up to 185 for an instand title shot. Right now GSP would exploit these young guys weakness so freakin bad. Anthony johnson would be the only exciting one. Fitch was 5 rounds and had great heart but i wouldnt wanna watch that again.

mullet and rodja who do you take, Fitch of Thiago A.? also anyword on the return of patrick cote?

You know Kos lost to Thiago, right?

with 2 weeks notice yah i do. took some leg kicks and a couple takedowns. i think if kos stopped trying to get greedy with that big right hand he could beat him next time. when is gsp ready to go? feb?

It was with 4 weeks notice and Kos landed nothing of merit and got dropped from leg kicks and a left hook. IMO, Kos has not evolved his game enough to be a top-5 WW. When I say that, I mean that he has gone away from his base in an attempt to be more exciting.

As Rodja said, it was four weeks; however, as far as I know, Kos stays in fight-shape year-round. Whether it was four or twelve, though, I could not see Kos providing Thiago with any major issues. Unfortunately, Thiago was prototypical for beating GSP: larger, relatively strong, amazing TD defense, power in the hands and aggressive. My point was that while AJ brings these same skills, he does not bring them to a higher degree than TA.

As I said before the TA fight, Fitch was and would remain GSP's toughest test; primarily because his chin is made of iron, and he had the wrestling to at least compete with GSP.

its sad, but it is reality. There will be little interest except to see him dominate another "challenger"

Definitely, AE. And that was the modest point I was making: seeing GSP thrash another contender for 1-5 RDs no longer piques my interest. Now that Hendo appears to be leaving for Strikeforce, there is no better time for GSP to challenge some of the MW contenders.

couldnt agree more. To see GSP v. Swick/Daley/Hardy etc... is a waste. It wont last 2 rounds and if it did, GSP needs to be arrested.

I think give GSP a Bisping, Leben type at 185 and see what happens. Dont throw him in with Anderson yet, let him test the waters.

This is the problem IMO, there is no one at 155 who is interesting for Penn, or 170 for GSP or 185 for Anderson. I say strip them all of their belts and force them up. Then we get some good fights

Precisely. I think GSP should follow a similar path as Anderson: test the waters with a gatekeeper/journeyman at 185, and progressively move to top five opposition.
