Thyroid blood work results. Thoughts?????

Guys I just got back some thyroid blood work results and I wanted to hear what you guys think. I whink it indicates I could go up slightly with my medication but I was wondering what better people then I might think.

I have been on 2 grains of Armour for about 1 month and before that I was on 150 mcgs of Synthroid. I have felt better since switching to the Armour but still not optimal.

TSH 1.623 uIU/ml .35 to 5.5

T4 free .92 ng/dl .61 to 1.76

T3 Free 3.5 pg/ml 2.3 to 4.2

Thanks guys.

Ive always wanted to try armour but most doctors do not prescribe it. If you increase only increase a little!!! and it takes a few weeks at a does to really know how its working.

I feel my best when my TSH is around .50 anything higher than that I feel like taking a dirt nap.

FnF thanks for the feedback. I was on Synthroid for so long and of course the doctor only would send me for the routine TSH testing and my TSH was always pretty low (.5 - .8) but I still felt like ****. Then I started talking about switching to Armour and of course the Doctor did not want to hear it. So I basically acquired some Armour through my own channels :) and started at the 2 grains per day 1 month ago. I do feel better then when on my maintenence dose of 150mcgs of Synthroid but in the past no one had ever tested my free T3 and Free T4 (well not while I was on replacement) so I have no levels to compare it to from when I was on the Synthroid. I have noticed that my body temperature is much closer to normal on average now. It used to stay around 97.6 ( I could never get really ripped either even with real clean eating and pretty thorough workout programs). Now it seems like my temperature averages around 98.0 - 98.1 in the last month or so. I know temperature is subjective but I thought it was interesting also. Any way I was thinking about going up to 2.5 or 3 grains per day and getting the blood work redone in a month or so.

Also by the way, to everyone out there, I realize that I am being slightly irresponsible switching my own med and getting my own blood work done but between some current health insurance issues and the lack of progressive doctors in this area I decided I was going to take some action on my own to address my quality of life.

We're wrangling with my wife's thyroxine dosage right now. Dr put her on it when she got pregnant and ended up overdosing her(200 mcg right off the bat for a TSH of 4.15)...which I warned about and was summarily ignored by everyone involved.

Gets kinda scarey when I know more than a Dr about hormones. lol

They really need to take more intensive course work in endocrinology.

I am not on Thyroid meds. yet people on the boards say I should be. Why is Free T4 so low mine is this low.
TSH 2.929 range 0.4-4.7 uIU/mL
T4 Free 0.91 range 0.71-2.23 ng/dL
T3 Free 2.32 range 1/5-3.5 pg/mL
My morning Temp is before getting out of bed is 96.7 some say this is low Thyroid.
I have low Cortisol do to Hypopituitary and take Isocort 8 pills a day that have 2.5 mgs of cortisol my avg. Temp went up from 97.2 to 98.6 taking Isocort.
Here is where I got the Idea about Taking my Temp.

In this link is a chart you can print and keep track of your Temp avg. by the day. Mine when I started doing this 3 months ago was all over the place and low. This was showing my Adrenals were low. Now my Temp is steady at 98.6 yet my Temp. before getting out of bed is 96.7 to 97.2.
I use this to take my Temp.

My Dr. feels my Thyroid is ok but he is stuck on reading TSH.
Here is a link to a story that blow my mind.

I feel anyone with a thyroid problem needs to read this.
Anyone think my Thyroid is low.

Yep this is what I have been doing I am up to 8 pills of Isocort = 20 mgs of cortisol and feeling much better. I just did a blood test last Tue. and will see the Dr. in 2 weeks to see if this got better on this Thyroid.

Dr. John,

Thank you for the paper, I will read it right away.

Did you mean that I should wait a few more weeks before actually trying to raise up the Armour dosage? Thanks.

I think yo ushoul dwait a couple more weeks before assessing your therapy.

I have switched many men from Synthroid (T4) to Armour-dose for dose--and dramatically improved Quality of Life (QOL).

I wrote an article for a magazine on this topic a few months ago. I'll see if I can find it.

I think when he says to wait before assessing he means your testing. Here is a good link on dosing Armour.

Wow Dr. John I may be having a problem and would appreciate your feedback as soon as possible. After my initial post here I boosted up my thyroid to 3 grains per day and recently (last 4 days) I noticed that I am having somewhat significantly higher blood presser. Normally my blood pressure is quite normal or below normal but now it is clearly in the hypertension range. My pulse in still below average (mid 50's) so I am surprised that increases in the thyroid are causing incresed blood pressure without increase of heart rate. Is it likly that the thyroid is the cause or is it more likely that it is the increase in thyroid without first balancing the adrenal issue? Thanks.

Because the thyroid stores so much thyroid hormone, youmust wait at least six weeks--perhaps longer--before assessing labs. But if you are acting on symptomology, changes can be made every other week or so, IMPO.

totally normal - from a numbers standpoint.

Completely agree DeerDeer but I am still symptomatic and temperature varies greatly throughout the day. Also extreme morning fatigue. It was my understanding that getting the Free T3 into the higher end of the normal range was best and the Free T4 the same with a TSH of below 1.0.
