Every time. I've seen drink that otherwise look great, but had 200 or 300mg L theanine. Hard no from me, that stuff sucks unless it's before bed.

I totally agree with you and I don't know why companies keep putting it in pre's
because anything more than 50mg just kills the stimulant effects.

Not saying that I agree with the reasoning, but I can answer the why they do it part - because it helps offset the overstimulated/jittery feeling for a lot of people and a lot of people won't use products that have over a certain amount of caffeine with it in there. So from a business standpoint, that's why they include it.

It's one of those ingredients that some people are sensitive to and dislike bc it mellows them too much, but that others love because it allows them to get a smooth energy off of higher stims that may make them anxious and jittery otherwise.

I'm not sensitive to it, so I'm neutral in my opinion - I like the ingredient in things that I use to help me with stress and anxiety and for mood, but wouldn't, but wouldn't think anything about it being in a pre unless the days was super high.

Yeah, think SNS just posted on this - but you're right, it has the opposite effect. Which I'm guessing is the desired effect. Then companies can put 400mg of caffeine plus 1.5-2mg of alpha-y, etc. so the consumer who's looking for those #s on a label purchases without having a "negative" experience.

But they'd do better just lowering the overall stim content.
 
Honestly I think people are just used to or expecting to be cracked out or overstimulated and lots of people don’t even know what proper stimulation feels like anymore (just look at top pre workout threads anywhere).

I totally get why people may not want a ton of Theanine, but the actual studies all seem to be at least 1:1 with caffeine (and honestly usually more theanine than caffeine) so I don’t think you can totally blame them for it.
 
I agree. I think that pp want to see such high stimulant dosages that companies feel like thru have to provide super high doses - but then they know it’s going to be too much for the average person so they use theanine to level it out.

I totally agree with you when you say they should lower the stimulants so they don't need
to put the L-Theanine in it. The one ingredient they need to lower is the caffeine and honestly
if your using QUALITY focus and other stimulant ingredients you really only need 250-300mg
of caffeine. Two of my best pre's that I have in my vast PW rotation only cost me $7 each but
they HIT very well in both focus and energy at 250-300 mg of caffeine but you can tell the other
ingredients they used are dosed well and quality because feel it without be overstimulated and
NO L-Theanine to kill the effects. Storm PW which seems to have gone out of business and
Purus Labs NOXYGEN are the 2 pre's that I referenced above. I'm glad I stocked up on them
when I caught that clearance price.

It’s funny that you mention that.

I’ve been considering later in the year doing an essentials line of single or simple stuff - stuff that you’d see on Amazon for example selling at 19.99 from mostly obscure brands or brands that have been shown to fail testing.

I just started asking opinions for ideas a couple weeks ago and caffeine & theanine capsules is in the top three most requested.
 
Btw - I’m not a fan of high stim pre’s to begin with. I’m just answering from the business side of things why so many brands do it bc the question was asked why brands did it.

They’re two completely different ingredients so it depends on your desired goals as to which you would like better.

Yes, you could stack them. We have plenty of people that stack Muscle Addiction Muscle Plex and Pepti-Plex or Pepti-Bolic.
