The efficacy of carbs in sparing protein

Is there any real way to know how much protein is being spared by the amount of carbs that we eat? I'm sure there are a variety of factors involved as everyone's metabolism acts differently. Links to any studies would be appreciated.

may or may not help,

carbs help spare protein by increased insulin, if your eating low carbs though you increase cortisol, and lower test levels (ergo log showed this) at a 30% carb diet i believe. which is not a low carb its a moderate carb.
Thanks man...i'll check it out.
