Segansational's Motivation Log

Primary Bench Day, Week 3

Foam rolling / stretching
Cat Camels
Scap Push ups
Bird Dogs x 10,5,3
Lacrosse ball
Rotator cuff ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Bench Press:
Warm ups,
45x12
95x10
135x8
165x5 - plus 1 rep vs last week
185x1 - still felt heavy

Working sets:
170x4
170x4
170x4 - plus 1 rep vs last week.
Strength felt OK. Bar path during set two felt a little off.

Slingshot assist:
185x5 - plus 1 rep vs last week

Raw finisher:
135x9 - plus 2 reps vs last week.
Really good chest activation on this set.

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

1 hr 7 mins, 240 cals.

Bench strength is coming back, slow and steady with additional reps per week being added on working sets.

Pre: 1 scoop Zeus, 2 caps Pepti-Plex, 2 caps All Flex 2 pumps TD carnitine gel.
Intra: Same as prior.
That is nice progression and good working sets! Like how this is coming together.

Back
Foam rolling / stretching
Cat Camels
Bird Dogs x10,5,3

Close Grip Lat Pulldowns
3 plates x 12
7 plates x 10
8 plates x 10
9 plates x 10

Deadlifts, double overhand grip:
45x10
95x8
135x6
155x6
155x6 - stop and start, not continuous.
Right elbow bugging me a bit, so put on my sleeve for a little joint support at the first working set. Plus did these belted. Didn't push too hard today.

Meadows Rows:
+10 per side x 3 x 10

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

57:38, 138 cals.

Didn't have the drive or motivation this morning. Everything was a little slow. Head wasn't in it this morning. Mostly home stuff getting in the way. However will continually try to look at things from different perspectives.

Pre: 1 scoop Forbidden Fruit, 2 caps Pepti-Plex, 2 caps All Flex, 2 pumps TD carnitine gel.
Intra: Same as prior.

great job getting that workout in and getting the body moving!
💪
the ability to just show up and get the work done even when the motivation is not there is what separates the wheat from the chaff
(i think im using that saying correctly?)

Had to force myself this morning to make it happen as well. Still got it done 💪🏻 way to keep at it!

If they can keep my elbows happy I will love them. DB Bench and shoulder press are by far the things that make me sore more than other movements for the pecs and front delts. However the brachialis where it goes over my elbow gets inflamed after a few weeks of pushing hard, I think due to how hard I end up squeezing the DB handles, so I bet the wraps will actually help with that. I had just never thought about the upstream benefits and only used wraps if my wrists were hurting. At this point, I am not worried if i look like the Michelin man with all the wraps on as long as it allows me to train harder more consistently.

I lol’d at feeling like the Michelin man! Seriously that’s exactly how I’m feeling on pull days more than anything past 2 weeks.

I for years used the wrap type with the single lace (crossfit style), then went over to velcro about 2 years ago with gym reapers. they lasted about a year, then I replaced them with cerberus which were super stiff at first but have broken in really nicely, I love mine! plus they take up no space in a carry-on when travelling....
Yeah, I have to remember to shove my lifting accessories into my travel bag. No reason not to. At minimum my wrist wraps and elbow sleeves.

Will bring them along for my accessory bench day this coming week while on a work trip to Texas. Will see what kind of gym set up this hotel has...

Thanks fellas. I've been really consistent these past few months and it helps when you have that habit for sure. Doesn't really matter what the day has ahead, the night before, or what my motivation level is - my alarm goes off, I get up and I get in the work.

Speaking of which...

50 mins on the bike this AM, 361 cals this morning! It's getting easier to just put the time in here as well, and given I'm really only getting 1 cardio day in a week - even with a slight surplus of cals - I don't mind going longer.

Weight today at 167.2#, so only average just about a lb up from last week's average. So things are moving in the right direction currently on all fronts.

That’s awesome and it makes a huge difference. Nice work on the bike this morning!

Hotel Gym Workout

Slept like complete dogsh!t at the hotel last night, so between not really being asleep anyways and the time change, 5:30 wake up was easy. Opened the hotel gym, there were no lights on even.

Warm ups:
Foam rolling
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Curl Ups x10,5,3
Resistance band twists, 2x10 per side
Stretching

Seated Leg Press:
50x12
110x10
130x10
150x10
170x
Did an extra set than I'd normally do given this was the only leg machine here, but suppose I should be happy they even had this.

DB alt lunges:
15x3x10

DB RDLs:
15x10
20x10
20x10

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

Pre: 1 packet 1MR Fruit Punch
Intra: 1 packet Ryse Hydration Pink Starburst

44:50, 165 cals.

Had a very mediocre first meal here in TX. Went to a BBQ place and had a 3 meat platter, plus a pecan pie. All the meat was fairly dry and only one type of sauce. Sorta blasphemous down here, but oh well. Could've been some digestion that was also hindering sleep last night given the big meal.

No bench or barbells here (otherwise the set up here is half decent machine-wise), so will probably do an overall upper body session tomorrow and then cardio on Wed before flying back out. Have a great week all.

Man props for getting up and getting it done.

I have become so used to not traveling anymore that I don’t think I’d do well with it anymore. So major kudos to you and everyone else that has to travel for work and still get sessions in!!

Oh and that sucks about the dry ass barbecue!

funny thing is, maybe it's in my head. I have many times found myself hitting my training weights on while travelling without my wraps. only this year have I started taking them with me, lol. But in regards to the Michelin man, my buddy for some reason completely takes off his elbow and wrist wraps in between every set so I have to wait for him to basically get dressed every rep, lol.

I just loosen mine between sets and consider them sweat bands until I need them 😅
I can understand where he is coming from. I don't even like keeping my versa grips tight in between sets. I loosen them and spin them around to the back of my wrists out of the way so I can update my weights on my phone. I just feel claustrophobic in tight wraps. If they aren't too bad I can deal but especially if I am hot I hate having them on in between sets. My knee sleeves not so bad as long as they aren't the tight ones. My current sleeves are too much for me right now. I need someone who PL's to sell them to. They are the new Inzer's that really help you get a little more weight out of the lift. I got them with PL intentions then my right shoulder injury just wouldn't allow for any PL any longer and i switched gears. I haven't managed to purchase a new pair yet but need one nice and comfy I can where for the whole leg session. Those I want off after my first and heaviest movement. I just can't wait to take them off.

Out of all the great things in this post I had to give a sad face reaction that you got bad BBQ here in TX, It's not that it doesn't exist but it is far from typical. What area are you in, I can find a place that will make up for it. Can't have you leave with that being your experience.

I'm the same way, I keep the wraps so tight during a set I have to relax them fully to be able to even enter my lift into my log or my thumbs are useless lol. My knee sleeves used to be so comfortable that there were times I'd just wear them home from the gym and deal with them there, but these days since making squats a priority in 2024 again, I must be enjoying some hypertrophy cause they're getting tight! there are days where the first thing I want to do is rip them down to the ankles so my legs can breathe, lol

Fort Worth, let me know if you've got a good spot. Or alternatively just a good steak will do as well!

Wrist wraps and elbow sleeves! Ha, felt weird using these for this weight, but you know what? If it saves my joints, it's worth it!

Lat Pulldowns:
40x12
85x10 - just on the border of risking my shoulder, so dropped down.
70x10
70x10

Cable Crossovers:
17.5x10
17.5 + additional weight x 10, 10

Same I gotta get relief from those between sets. I even unwrap between lifts at comp. I’d have no blood left to grab the bar if I left them on like others did lol

Got in one last workout at the hotel before I head to the airport:

Fasted cardio, 30 mins, 5.86 mi, 176 cals on the bike.

Didn't really have the drive this AM, probably due to the leg fatigue still from earlier this week and lack of restful sleep quality. Roughly 6-6.5 hrs this week so far, but seeing declining sleep quality scores on my fitbit each night since Mon, with last night being the worst (75 vs typically low to mid-80s).

good on you for getting it in! hopefully being back in your own bed gets your sleep quality back up. I tell my wife she's like my battery charger. I don't get as much quality sleep when she's not there, even if I'm in my own bed but she's out of town or something.

Well, 5:30 alarm came too early this morning. Felt like 4:30 to me due to the time change. But it was good to sleep in my own bed again.

Accessory Chest, Week 3

Foam rolling
Scap Push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Lacrosse ball
Rotator Cuff Ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Incline BP:
45x10
95x8
115x6
135x4

Working sets:
145x8
145x7
145x7

Machine Chest Press:
7 plates x 3 x 10
Kept lighter today to save my joints.

56:53, 153 cals.

Pre: 1 SAF Escobar shot. 300 mg caffeine, 150 mg DMHA, 5 g citrulline malate. Been saving this one for a bit and needed a quick boost this AM.
2 caps Pepti-Plex, 2 pumps TD carnitine gel.
Intra: 1 scoop EAA9, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration, 1 scoop Creatine Mono, 1/2 scoop HBCD.

Felt beat up this AM, upper back definitely knotted, neck also a little stiff probably due to flight/hotel bed. Even left shoulder felt a little off during benching. One more WO this week and then contemplating next week as a deload...

Edit:
Weight check at 170# even after some heavy eating these past few days.

Another tough wake up, but made a big deal to my kids about getting up on time / with my alarm the other day!

Arms/Shoulders
Foam rolling / stretching
Lacrosse ball
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
World's Greatest Stretch

Supersets:
TRX biceps x TRX triceps, 3x10

EZ bar curls x Dips
+35x3x10 / 3x10

DB laterals x Resistance band facepulls
10x3x10 / 3x10

Went with supersets this AM since I got up a little later than usual, but still made it into the gym. Went for a pump up, nothing notable to really report. Should increase weights next time though.

48:54, 144 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Forbidden Fruit, 1 cap Eria J, 2 caps Pepti-Plex, 2 pumps TD carnitine gel
Intra: Same as yesterday.

Just finished up another tub of creatine mono, will be switching to Bucked Up All Bulk, No Bloat. And probably only one or two applications of carnitine gel left.

32:36, 220 cals this AM on the bike.

Last serving of TD carnitine on the quads prior. Maybe have 1/2 a pump left. Overall, a positive experience with this stuff. I'd probably put it on the list of a purchase next big order around. So, for me not a must have, but just underneath in terms of tiering. Pepti-plex as example is pretty much a staple these days (as top tier example). Also, good to report no issues with this in terms of skin irritation.

What do you feel you notice using Pepti-plex?

What do you feel you notice using Pepti-plex?
Improved recovery IMO. 6 days/wk at my age working out seems significant, but I feel like I've been able to maintain this pace partly due to it. Granted, I also give a lot of credit to my intra-WO nutrition (EAAs, electrolytes, carbs) which I'm faithful to. But I've probably been through 5-6 bottles worth at this point.

Maybe something related to the anti-catabolic claim too, particularly as I felt good and pretty able to drop some weight/maintain while keeping decent size. But that wouldn't be the number one effect.

Primary Bench Day, Week 4

Foam rolling / stretching
Scap Push ups
Bird Dogs x 10,5,3
Lacrosse ball
Rotator cuff ex, micro plate 2x12,12

Bench Press:
Warm ups,
45x12
95x10
135x8
165x6 - plus 1 rep vs last week. This felt good and strong.
185x1 - still felt heavy.

Was expecting to hit two reps on 185 given how easy the beginning of warm ups felt, but top set was still too heavy so bailed.

Working sets:
175x3
175x3
175x3
Increased by 5# for working sets this week. Surprised the lift off was difficult, set 2 & 3 were good ones though.

Raw finisher:
145x6 - plus 5# for reps.

No time for slingshot work this AM.

Stretching/foam rolling.

Fitbit stopped recording, so reporting wouldn't be accurate.

Pre: 1 scoop Zeus, 2 caps Pepti-Plex, 2 caps All Flex, 2 pumps TD carnitine gel.
Intra: 1 scoop EAA9, 1 scoop Hydra-Charge, 1/2 scoop HBCD, 1 scoop All Bulk, No Bloat.

Had thought about a deload week, but couldn't bail on primary Bench day! Plus added in All Bulk, No Bloat, so figured would see how that treated me. Creatine, glutamine, HMB, HICA, Mediator PA. Should be a solid addition to the intra-mix. A lot of sweetness/flavoring between this and the Hydra-Charge...

Warm ups flew. Unfortunately the top/working sets were a bit of a struggle, but all in all, it was a solid morning even with being a little rushed since I snoozed the alarm.

Accessory Chest, Week 4
Been waking up 10 mins later each morning this week. Didn't get out of bed until 6 this AM. Shorter session this AM, so maybe the extra hour this Sunday will be a good thing to help me reset my sleep schedule.

Warm ups:

Foam rolling
Scap Push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Rotator Cuff Ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Incline BP:
45x10
95x8
115x6
135x4 - felt good.

Working sets:
155x8
155x7
No time for a 3rd set.

41 mins, 125 cals.

No other accessory work this morning due to shortened time.

Pre: 1 scoop Zeus. That's it!
Last doses of Pepti-Plex yesterday. Feels weird to have so few caps in my pill case these days! Just doesn't feel right.
Intra: Same as yesterday

Weighed in yesterday at 167.6#.
Bouncing around a little bit, but slowly starting to see the steady upward curve on my weight chart.

Yesterday was an off day.

But with all of the leaf raking / blowing I did, let's call it active rest day! Hit 17.8k steps and was pulling one of those industrial fan blowers up and down our hilled yard. Thing has to weigh at least 40# would be my guess.

AM workout:

Light shoulders/arms session today. Slept in and took advantage of the extra hour of the time change.

Foam rolling / stretching
Curl Ups
Scap Push Ups
Cat Camels
Resistance band twists

Resistance band facepulls 3x10
DB laterals, 10x3x10
Seated DB press, 30x3x10

More leaves yesterday, ended up a little pver 19k steps.

Bench Press:
Warm ups,
45x12

165x4
185x1 - barely got this rep in.

Working sets:
175x3
175x2
175x2

Slingshot:
195x3

Stretching/foam rolling.

58:55, 183 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Super Human Pump, 20mg Pyrsoten, 15mg Geozine.
Intra: 1 scoop EAA9, 1 scoop Hydra-Charge, 1/2 scoop HBCD, 1 scoop All Bulk, No Bloat, 9g glutamine, 4g taurine (All Bulk has 1g already).

Day 1 VL Pyrsoten/Geozine, 20/15mg.

Thought about doing a separate log for this, but figured it'll be easier for me to look back on in here. Back to the medicine cabinet, here are the support supps now added in:

Cycle Assist
CardioXT
TUDCA
Nattokinase
Taurine
Glutamine

Notes:
No appreciable impact to strength on day 1 (bench is easiest to gauge true strength effects on) so seemingly less mental impact of these two compounds vs some others pre-WO at least for the short term. However, also no stims pre-WO as I'll be moving to non-stim to manage BP. That said, I may slowly add back in caffeine at say 1/2 doses as I go along. Forbidden Fruit at a 1/2 scoop would still have a good profile.

What are these? Pyrsoten/Geozine, 20/15mg. I tried to google them but didn't come up with anything obvious. I assume either prohormone or designer steroid but the name didn't pull up anything for me. Are they methylated, or a prohormone kind of thing?

Hey I started blasting today too, 72mg test c/day (504/wk)! Best of luck; those doses should be a solid effect with lower sides.

Keep some Tums around to take after your oral doses if you get heartburn. I was just listening to a podcast with Alex Kikel mentioning on it that calcium actually helps lessen some of the gut disruptions when using orals, beyond just helping the heartburn. He also mentioned my old faithful for orals, Pepcid/Famotidine, if more support becomes needed.

Methylstenbolone and Dymethazine - a classic combo

Oh wow, yeah that should do the trick nicely! Those both do great on their own, I am sure they will perform quite well together. and good doses for the combination too.

Oooo this is gonna be fun! I gave away my last bottle of pyrosten to a friend a few months ago. That stuff was gold tho!

Any reason that calcium tablets wouldn't offer the same benefit? Found some calcium citrste 600 mg tabs in my cabinet... rest of my post somehow disappeared.

Vicious Labs, so should be legit!

Gotta have a little fun here and there! All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Back Day
Probably one of my least favorite days lately. Mainly because I'm not DL focused, and I just don't know what else to put into my routine...

Foam rolling
Cat Camels
Bird Dogs
Lacrosse ball

Neutral Grip Pull Ups x 6,7,6

BB Rows:
45x12
95x8 - Wasn't fully ready I think warm up-wise. Felt harder than it should be.
95x10 - Felt good.
95x9 - Left side lower back felt a light twinge holding for that last rep. I shouldn't have pushed reps on the last set. Plan was 8, but tried to go for 10.

Knew my low back might cause me trouble this week after a two day weekend of leaf raking. Honestly, I think the goal of my back training[/i] should just be to not get hurt[/i]. In any event, an unbraced pulling movement is probably just not right for me.

Lat Pulldowns:
4 plates x 12
8 plates x 8
7 plates x 8 - dropped so as not to stress my lower back on the pull.
7 plates x 8
7 plates x 8

Foam rolling / lacrosse ball.

1 hr 8 mins, 138 cals

Pre: 1/2 scoop Forbidden Fruit, plus allows the other stuff.
Intra: Same as yesterday.

Notes
Son woke up at 3:40 this AM yelling for me. So decided today would be a good day for a half scoop / half dose of caffeine pre-WO. Less than 200 mgs.

Already feeling the sides coming on:
BP headache hit late afternoon. Nothing that an extra cap of Hawthorne couldn't fix. I had preloaded with it (565mg) 3 days leading up to the start. Cycle Assist has 1g in it. So now at 1.5g daily.
Light indigestion feeling in the evening post-dinner. Will monitor as I know this will get harder as we go along, didn't need to do anything though other than drink some more water.
Slight increase in irritability already day 1.
Sleep was weird too, not restful, brain was going after I was woken up earlier. So not sure how restful last night was.

If memory serves, you lift at home also. I have been contemplating a chest supported row but they r pricey. Titan makes a decent T-bar but I’ve never been a big fan of that exercise. One of those exercises I put on the shelf and never revisited.

Hit 17.8k steps and was pulling one of those industrial fan blowers up and down our hilled yard.

that's wild man, I have only done that once since I started keeping track when I broke around 22k in vegas. But even walking 8 miles in PVR last weekend I only hit like 15,500. since watching this metric I find it to be super interesting to realize just how sedentary my life really is! 10k steps may be arbitrary but there is a reason why people in communities that are mostly walked rather than driven, tend to live longer!

Sounded like all calcium will help, so I would just use the tabs you have for now and then if you specifically find you need more heartburn support, you could switch to Tums.

If you do try barbell rows again at all, try them with your forehead resting on the top of an adjustable incline bench in front of you. You can get a lot of support for a tighter brace that way, and it keeps you from using momentum to add more weight than you actually need for lats. Plus you are always in the same torso angle consistently every rep when you do them on the same bench.
