The PM should be taken on an empty stomach.

The PM is fine to take with melatonin as well :)

Do you recommend eating well before the PM dose or following it? I like to make sure I consume some sort of protein near the end of my day.

I would eat maybe 40 mins before.

It's not too big of a deal, just don't take them with food, as it may inhibit some of the ingredients being absorbed.
