high blood glucose

hey guys... question for ya...

co-worker...56+yr old...over weight, drinks rye, eats not so good im sure..etc..

had blood work done and doctor called him concerned over his level, he said 6.9, which is top of our and works out to 125nmol for you state side guys...lol

heres the Q?, blood was drawn in the AM, today at work he had glucometer at 11.3, but then at lunch time he is say a 5.4....

so he's high in the AM, but level at other times

take on this??

Have him test

Hemoglobin A1C
insulin


Hemoglobin A1C
gives average insuline levels, I think it may be a better indicator.

If you know A1C
you can calculate average glucose

HA1c is a cheap test. You can have it done in some pharamcies, just check around. It is an indicator of blood sugar levels over the last 2 to 3 months. Some insulin resistant pts have high fasting BS and after eating a high glycemic index food get a low BS reading due to an insulin "over reaction"(if the reading was after a meal). But, some people do have high readings first thing in the AM due to GH secretion raising BS during the night. Definetly need more info to know much of anything. Take some readings 1 to 2 hours after meals.
