Heart Palpitations and Thyroid

Hey guys, i have hashimoto's thyroiditis. Ive been on the same medication and the same dosage for 7 years. 4 grains (2 grain tablets) of ERFA thyroid. Each 2 grain tablet contains (76mcg T4/17mcg T3)

About 3 weeks ago i began having heart palpitations and went to my GP to do some blood work firstly thyroid.

My numbers (13/4/17):

Free T4 - 16.6 (9.0 - 25.0) pmol/L
Free T3 - 9.7 * (3.5 - 6.5) pmol/L
TSH - 0.01 (0.50 - 5.00) mIU/L

It didn't make sense to me because in the past my levels we're always high normal for both about 23 for FT4 and 6.0 for FT3 and felt good. Was i now getting more conversion of my T4 into T3 perhaps? and needed to lower my dosage... by lowering it my FT4 would be even lower which doesn't seem good to me but i could be wrong. Now i reduced the ERFA to 2-3 grains per day. Or theres a possibility the medication could have a higher dosage of T3 and less T4 in this batch, considering the expiry date is april 2017.

On stop the thyroid madness website they said this: Generally, those on an optimal amount of desiccated thyroid will have a free T4 around mid-range when their free T3 is at the top and in the presence of healthy adrenals. If you have low FT4 and a mid-range or slightly higher FT3, it usually means the T4 is converting like mad to give you the T3 you do have, which means hypo.

Just wanted people's opinions or feedback who are on thyroid themselves for whatever reason, thanks.

Palpitations can be caused by a million different things. You couldve been having them for years and only just started being conscious of them.

How regular are they? Do they seem random in occurance?

If they dont correct themselves, or you cant pinpoint a cause and are still concerned, Id push for your doc to refer you to a specialist and request a 24hr holter monitor followed by an echo. For your own peace of mind youll no doubt be seeking assurance that these palpitations are benign.

I think it was due to the thyroid because on 4 grains they we're happening for 2-3 weeks before i got the results back and lowered the dosage now on 3 grains it doesn't seem to be happening. I went to the ER for this and an ECG came back normal as well as regular bloodwork, told to lower my med dosage. I saw a cardiologist in the past who did a heart ultrasound and told me it was all good and required no further investigation. I will do fresh bloodwork to see where thyroid levels are atm, but yes if these symptoms return i will see the cardiologist again.

The palpitations we're constant but it was worse lying down and waking me up from sleep, my sister had the same symptoms in the past and her thyroid levels we're even higher that mine T4 & T3 both over range and the symptoms resolved themselves when her thyroid levels came back down. Her thyroid was enlarged on ultrasound, all her thyroid antibodies we're not over range but on the high end of range. In contrast to my Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies which we're >2000 and should be under 50-100 along with a TSH of 24 which confirmed my hashimoto's all those years back.

I know that my regular pulse rate is 50-60 and BP spot on 120/80 (i have a BP Monitor at home) so having a pulse of 90-100 at rest isn't normal for me. I am very conditioned and can train at high intensities for long periods of time e.g. 1 1/2 hours of cardio in the gym, cycling, tennis etc.

Thanks for the reply Nac repped.

When you do the foundational work properly with a competent practitioner then the thyroid medicine may start working better.
Can take up to 2 years to heal the gut :)

Yes Matrix I pretty much did that all on my own and through your assistance. As soon as I remove gluten from my diet my gut works great the next day, I'd say 2 weeks not 2 years ?
