Does creatine damage your liver?

Alright. I did a search and didnt find anything conclusive so Im posing it here..

Doesnt creatine **** your liver up?

As far as I remember, clinical trials resulted in finding that creatine supplementation -> creatinine and, bottom line, high creatinine are bad for your liver.

I dont understand how this process changed in the past few years...

Begin the flaming but keep it factual (ie gimmie some clinical studies supporting your claim).
 
It may elevate creatinine levels, but not to a point that's actually harmful to the liver.. Unless you already have some sort of liver disease.. Then it might actually be a problem.

Any studies to support that? Id love to see something factual...
 
"On November 12, 1999 at the 19th Annual Southwest American College of Sports Medicine Meeting, two long term creatine studies were presented from the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab at the University of Memphis*. Both studies showed that 9 months of creatine supplementation (taking an average of 5 grams per day) in athletes had no negative effects on markers of renal function or muscle and liver enzymes in comparison to athletes not taking creatine."

1.Kreider R, Rasmussen C, Ransom C, Melton C, Greenwood M, Stroud T, Cantler E, Milnor P, Almada A, Greenhaff P. Long-term creatine supplementation does not affect markers of renal stress in athletes.
2.Almada A, Kreider R, Ransom J, Melton C, Rasmussen C, Greenwood M, Stroud T, Cantler E, Milnor P, Earnest C. Long-term creatine supplementation does not affect muscle or liver enzyme efflux in athletes.
 
Make sure you are always well hydrated when using creatine. It will prevent you from cramping. Thats the only real side effect when I read about creatine use.
 
the only thing ppl really talk about w/ creatine is the kidneys because i think thats what converts creatine to creatinine
 
Please stop eating red meat while you are at it...

since meat contains creatine.
i wouldnt want you to hurt yourself!

ahaha, its in meat, but in lower doses.. but put it this way.. creatine has been used for well over a decade now. if there was liver damage resulting from its use.. it would have been news by now

the rumors that it is dangerous are just theories.. but theories are unproven facts.
the facts on the other hand...point to "no"
