Any college fans on the board? If so, who do think will win the National Championship in football this year? I'm going with a homer pick.

I think the 3 best teams are USC, LSU, and Georgia. LSU is returning an even better defense; question will be at QB. USC is returning a great team minus a few players; hopefully Mike Williams will play. Georgia is returning a great team as well that was held back by plenty of injuries last year; Greene is a top QB.
 
USC is the best IMO, they're recruiting has also been among the top 5 the last couple of years.

BTW, Cal will catch some teams by surprise this year. Their QB Aaron Rodgers doesn't get a lot of recognition but he's one of the best in the nation.

What do you guys think about Florida ? I'm intrigued cause I can see their AD hoping for a subpar year so he can fire Ron Zook and hire Spurrier

We are flying under everyones radar this year, with an easy ass schedule, FSU, VT at home, only tough road game is Virginia. Dont know if we are as good as Oklahoma on paper right now, but everyone has said we arent worth a damn for the past couple of years and we have ended up winning 2 National Championships (Yes, We DID win in Tempe) and a Sugar and Orange Bowl. Not bad at all............

All **** talking aside..............I cant wait for the damn season to begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The Canes aren't flying all that low. Publications I've seen have them in the 5 - 6 range. I haven't seen their schedule yet, so there may be some potential there. I think LSU & Georgia will both be real good, but one will probably be knocked out of the title hunt when the play each other, in Georgia. I think USC will probably have a fairly smooth path, if they don't slip up. It seems the PAC10 has been down lately (except for USC), so their schedule should help them out. SO, which one of those teams will play the Sooners for the title? hmmmmmm....:D

Texas A&M...well thats who I wish would win but I have a feeling it's going to be OU...unless we upset them again at Kyle Field...damn that was the best game I have ever been to two years ago.
 
Wolverines got rid of John Navarre at QB. That will save them atleast 1 lost game. They wont be national contenders but they will be solid for sure.

Great to see anyother Canes bro on here. I fully agree with you man. But I must say I think the Georgia Tech game will be our toughest road game. (That place will be a sell out, only because the stadium is so small.) The fact remains, we have Brock Berlin at QB - I don't think anyone truthfully thinks we can win a National Title game with him at QB. I think we can get to it, but not win it. That is, unless he had a really, really bad season last year and has gotten the multitude of INT's out of his system. We are also really thin at LB - esp. with Willie Williams uncertain to come to school. If he's allowed to play, I think our D will be on of the top 3 D's in the country. We'll have the best D-line (we return 7 of 8) plus we have the best corner - Antrele Rolle.

I guess my prediction is that we "sneak" (if that's possible with a juggernaut like Miami) into the Orange Bowl, but I don't see Berlin winning us another title. I hope I'm wrong on that front.

And we did win the 2003 Fiesta (Fiasco) Bowl!
 
The Gators will be a much better team. These players are now Zook's guys (not recruited by Spurrier), and it won't take us 4 games to figure out that Chris Leak is one of the best QBs in the country. Our lines are experienced and we have some young, talented WRs and DBs.

Leak and Greene are going to be the top QBs in the SEC if not the country. However, I just do not see Florida being on the same defensive level as LSU and Georgia.

SEC will be tough.
 
Anyone know how many returning starters LSU has on their D? They started out great last year and ended up being awesome by seasons end. I believe I heard they are returning 18 starters from last years team, but I didn't know if they were O or D guys. They'll be hard to beat if they don't get complacent with their success (ala sooners).

I agree with your analysis of our weak points, but I really think Berlin will have a much better year, I mean, he has to. How can he play worse than last year? If that is the case this year, I am eagerly waiting for our unleashing of Kyle Wright on the ACC. This boy is going to give us a NC while he is here.

In any case, GT will be tough, but from what I have read, their defense is really weak and their offense is decent with Ball at QB. Its funny though, I am getting used to the "experts" predicting a bad year for the CANES sine we always lose so many to the draft. Let them Keep on predicting this, because if we can repeat the cycle of winning all 4 BCS games in the past 4 years, we are due another NC!!!!!

Cant wait for my damn season tickets to get here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah USC looks golden...I said the same thing last year and I'll say it again...USC will be the toughest..LSU and OU definately have a lot going for them as well IMO...

Also, look out for Georgia like someone else said.

Damn, it isn't even July yet and we're talking about NCAA's...lol..
 
Hey dave.Im a huge LSU fan and we should win the title or finish 2nd.Hard schedule though.But they can do it even with randall at qb or a freshman.Im not exactly sure on the numbers returning.I know we lost a dt,de,lb,safety but he was white,no offense but not an athlete like the rest,and a 3rd or 4th string db.In other words we lost 2 or 3 good players off the d but they will be replaced by as good or better players.We added a couple solid db's and 1 lockdown db compared to deon sanders or however you spell it.Defense should be as good or better.On offense we lost 2 real good wr's that will be replaced by 5 good wr's,a tight end that had butterfinger hands,a ol or 2 which is no big deal, and qb. Randall is much improved at qb and the run game should be best in the sec.We will see soon.I would say we lose 1 game possibly 2 with new qb.

I'm so jealous, season tix! How long have you been going to games man? There is no way Berlin can play any worse, it's not humanly possible. I was at the VTech game, God what a meltdown. I haven't seen something that bad from one of our QB's since Frank Costa overthrew a wide open Jonathon Harris against Nebraska in the '95 Orange Bowl to end the game.

DieTrying - the players aren't the issue with the Gators. Zooker is. You know he's a terrible game coach. I will give him that he can recruit, but he's awful with X's and O's. I mean, there are only so many 2 yard bubble screens you can run.....or apparently not. Regardless, it'd be nice if the Gators would play the Canes more than 2 times in 16 years. Come on now.

Dude, the Pac-10 isn't as bad as many think Cal is gonna be dangerous. They have tons of starters coming back. Their QB is very good and very underrated. They're concern is special teams and the secondary. Cal also happens to be the team which beat USC last year. They beat Virginia Tech in a Bowl game when no one expected them be better than a 5-6 team. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Cal wins 9 games this year.

I don't mean to say the PAC10 sucks or anything. It's just that back in the '90s, it seems the league would always have 5 or 6 really strong teams. It seems at least one of the Wash. schools and one of the Ore schools would have a top 10-15 programs, along with a couple of Cal schools. The PAC10 definitely has a few contenders, but to me, the league as a whole is not as strong, top to bottom, as it was 5 - 10 years ago. I could be missing the boat though. Being in OK, I see mainly Big12, SEC, & Big10 on a regular basis. Maybe I'm just not as familiar with the PAC10 teams.

I believe we scheduled troy state cause va tech or another team backed out like the last 4 years?We are title contenders with randall at qb or a freshman,live with it.The d will be faster and better or as good at least.The run game will be deadly and several great wr's you have no idea about.

I see your point and you're right. You could count on USC, UCLA, Washington, Stanford, and the old Arizona desert swarm defense. Today's PAC-10 doesn't come close to that.
 
I'm gonna go with LSU... they absolutely dominated last season, and they had easily the best recruiting class. talent lost was regained quickly and I believe they will likely take the top spot again this season unless UGA can give them a run in the SEC
 
usc easily. they are only losing 2-3 starters who they have replacements for. mike williams is the only player they are losing that might make a difference, but look at the receivers they have. their starting qb was only a sophomore last year, add experience...look out!

LSU would beat usc by 10 if they played tomorrow with randall or a freshman at qb and wr.Write it down. Usc isn't physical enough and defense isn't anywhere near as good,its soft.And the o is only good against them weak d's they play.
 
I don't know about USC's defense being soft. They did hold Chris Perry to like 80 yards, when they gave up points and yards, it was usually when they were in prevent mode after having a 30+ point lead. It would have been a treat to watch USC and LSU last year though, would have been similar to the Giants vs. Bills Super Bowl IMO cause you have a dominating defense vs. an extremely powerful offense.
 
USC's defense is alot softer than LSU's is what im saying.We gave up points and yards late just like they did> saban put in the 4th string in 3rd quarter several times.USC got straight scored on with their starters in the game,i have seen it.Not to mention they play nobody and still gave up yards and points.And as for michigan,they are extremely soft,not real good,no d,and o line is weak and holding perry to 80 yards isnt good.Look what oregon did to michigan..
 
I'll be interested to see how both LSU and USC perform with the bullseye on their backs. As Ohio State well knows, it's a helluva lot tougher than coming from no where.



Just don't count out The U.
 
Yea michigan should be a tad better this year with a new qb,or so they say.I know predictions are nothing dude.Im just talkin **** bout football.But yes usc is softer than LSU, and michigan is softer than you think.

You're right... other than losing Reggie Williams, we just dont have the depth and standout talent of the early 90's Dawgs. I do think Isiah will come through this year and hopefully the young running back crew can continue what they showed during spring ball. GO DAWGS!! But logically, OU and UM (with the FSU game at Miami) are my two obvious choices

Sage, yeah the 90s glory is long gone. I am more excited with this years team than last years'. Hopefyly leave the last years mess and move on. In Dawg we trust.
 
I remember. That was crokers first lost for a long long time until he lost to Ohio St. in the Fiesta. Also remember when they went down to UM and broke their 50-something home game winning streak back in 1995 with damon huard leading the squad. Napolean Kaufman was philthy.

What are you talking about? UW did nto participate 2001 Orange Bowl. Florida and Maryland did.
Any ways, I guess there was a game a cuple years ago that Miami beat Washington pretty bad. Really dont remember the game since it was not home game. In fact, I almost forgot ass spanking Ohio State gave us last yaer. :(
My best UW football memory is when they went to Lincon and handed loss to Nebraska on their way to National title. Ahh, Brunel and Billy Joe. Good stuff man. I guess I am really enjoying Apple Cup last few years since we are beating them Cougs good.

62-7 in '01. That says it all. Hehe. I've heard that was probably the most electric the OB has been since the late 80's.
 
True, it was embarassing loss for UW, but I am just saying if it was not for them Dawgs your beloved Miami foootball program would have won 2 national titles instead of one. Now how do you like that?

I know yall really love saying we lost a shot at the 2000 championship because yall beat us, but the fact is that we got screwed by the then BCS formula. FSU shoulda never been in the OB that year against OU, we should have. We had a better strength of schedule than both you and the Criminoles, and we beat FSU head to head when they were #1.

If you remember, they changed the BCS formula after that fiasco, and we would have played OU with the formula that was present in '01. We would have beaten OU and their mediocre offense in the OB that year.
 
Yeah, that was crap in '00, I would have loved to have seen Dan Morgan flatten Josh Heupel. However, it dosent piss me off much. I had a great time seeing the Canes kick Spurriers ass in the Sugar Bowl. New Orleans was off the hook!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to talk about real crap? Lets fast forward to 2002...............You know what I mean.
 
lol, I will alway have something to say no matter how pitiful the agument is. For the record, I do know if we compare UW to Miami for last 5 years, Miami have all over UW... Wins, titles, or number of players drafted. I really dont care how much UW stinks. Unfortunately, as a Seattle sports fan, I am used to supporting teams with losing records like M's this year. :(

Thank God college football is almost here. I live for Saturdays in the fall. Makes me miss Columbus and Lane Ave, though. They just don't have anything like that out here in CO Springs. It sucks having to order the games, but it's worth it. I know there are a lot of OSU haters out there, but what kind of fan would I be if I was scared to say GO BUCKS!!!
 
In the New Ncca2005 Football by EA Sports, USC is unstoppable, Oklahoma is nearly unstoppable, and Texas is pretty good.
Miami, Ohio St. are not as good as they should be.
