Can you boost your immune system?

Hey folks.

Can you actually improve your immune system using supplements?

I know we hear all the usual ones. Vitamin C. Zinc. Magnesium etc.

Is their any other ingredients that are proven to really boost the immune system? I can't take NAC. I've tried it numerous times and always end up with mood issues/Anhedonia. Some people just don't react well to NAC.

What other ingredients/Supplements are proven to increase the immune response?

I seem to be getting sick so easily these days. If their is a bug going around I'm picking that b*tch up. Another reason I ask is. My partner who has a trash diet compared to myself NEVER gets sick. Even if they do they brush past it like nothing. When I get sick I'm barely able to lift myself out of bed. Completely floors me.

My diet '' seems '' to cover all aspects. I've ran it through a nutrition app and all RDA's are covered.

I'm at a loose end now. It seems like I'm getting sick every 2-3 months now.

I've read into Allicin. A component of crushed garlic. Anyone ever used this?

Thanks

Allicin is a natural antibiotic, to my knowledge it only helps with bacterial infections. As someone with some immunocomprimised problems I have tried many supplements, IMO theres nothing like high dose Vitamin D and medium dose zinc (10,000 iu vitamin d, I take it with k2) and something like 20mg zinc, Boron is another great one, 10mg daily is perfect. I havent tried it but it seems super interesting, theres a supplement thats a mix of mushrooms called AHCC Kinoko that was shown in some studies to increase T cells 4 fold. SNS immune support xt is also something worth considering, aswell as trying an astragalus supplement. Nootropics depot has a bunch of great immune supplements aswell and they are very reliable.

All of these should be great products.

Myovite has been my go to multi vitamin for awhile and has pretty good immune support. It's kept me healthy at least.

Wash your hands often! Don’t touch your face….Honestly avoid touching other people too! It all helps.

I believe epicor might be something you might like.

Kinda expensive, but beta 1,3-D glucan specifically made by A.J. Lanigan and researched by Valcav Vetvicka, PhD is probably the best immune booster/immune modulator on the market.

Yes, you can definitely boost your immune system, in a lot of different ways.

Rather than copy and paste a lot of info here, here's a link to the Immune Support XT write up, as its pretty detailed and covers some of the different ways in the write up.

I wash my hands all the time. I'm very religious about it tbh. Even more now that I'm getting sick so often
Same here! Currently trying to get over a cold at the moment to :(

If you go to the gym often I would also make sure to clean dumbbells and benches off before you use them and if your touching the gym equipment, then your phone or headphones or anything else I would Clean off your phone, headphones with alcohol wipes. Its made a huge difference for me, I get sick less often after doing that for sure.

I always thought
Get some blood work done. Sounds like your WBC is low.
i always thought beta androstenetriol was good for this also

I personally like Neuro AET from iconic formulations because of my personal smell preference they use celery saage vs iron legions invictus which is like cedar wood ish

You know something. This might actually be why I'm sick this time?

I'm staying in London and used a gym about 3 days prior to this sickness setting in? I probably picked up a bug in their. Never even thought about the gym. I seen loads of people using machines etc and never once wiped it down! I always clean up when I'm finished with equipment.

I'm starting to pull out of it thankfully. Been a hellish few days. Completely messed up my sleep also so my body is even more exhausted.

Still gonna do some immune boosting supplements though. I need to look to the future to help my body cope better.

Sucks eh?

You forget how awful it feels until your laying in bed sweating and coughing up your organs.

I'm just pulling out of it just now. My partner is still 100% perfect though. That's what annoys me lol. Their immune system is bulletproof.

You tried any immune boosters? Anything worked? I've ordered a couple things to see if it helps any. Can't walk about wrapped in cling film all the time 😂

Yeah, I'm in your exact same boat, I have always had a terrible immune system. Trust me when I say sanitizing your phone, headphones, glasses and anything you may touch often helps a ton with getting sick less. Being sick hits me super hard to, first I had long covid when I was 16 for abt 2 years and now I have had it for about a year, I've always been sick about 4 or 5 times a year and its always hit me incredibly hard. The Kinoko supplement i linked in my earlier reply should help you a lot, aswell as the other ones I linked should make a killer stack. Is there any specific reason you may have a bad immune system? (Genetics, cystic fibrosis, autoimmune diseases, etc) if you do i could give you some more specific suggestions.

Over the last few winters while I've been using Supress-C, I've gotten sick a lot less. Could obviously be purely coincidental, but, there is some evidence to bAET supporting immune functions.

Jeez sorry to hear about all your issues.

I think I am just genetically immune deficient. I also heal poorly also. Are you also a poor healer?

I've tried making my diet as best as possible but I just think it's a genetic deficiency somewhere. You can always tweak your genes though.

I will pick up some sanitising wipes and do what you were saying. I'm certain that I got this in the gym this time. No one cleans the equipment. It's actually annoying and disgusting! Sweat box's and they just walk away from a machine.... I always clean the machine down. Takes 20 seconds.

What suggestions do you have? Have you tried colostrum? I just bought some zinc and also some black seed oil.

At home my health is usually good. It's when I travel. I went to New York last year. Never had been. Was crazy excited and saved a ton of money for it. 3rd day in I got covid and I could barely even walk to the toilet 20 feet away. Absolutely wasted my holiday. Same a few weeks ago. Went to tenerife. 3 days in. Covid. Floored again. Went to London last week. Fell ill. Honestly it's making me want to not leave the house

Your gut microbiome controls your immune system. Get a good probiotic

I've been slamming zicam every 3 hours during the day. I think I'm on the downward trajectory. Of course Dayquil Nyquil combo does the trick for me to and knocks me out cold during the night.

Thank you, i know what is causing my bad immunity luckily, I have the HLA B27 gene which is responsible for a lot of autoimmune diseases. I wouldn't say I'm a poor healer aside from when im sick, most of my physical problems heal pretty quickly like injuries and scars and everything, I know you posted a thread a while ago on that saying you don't heal quick. If your open to taking pharmaceuticals and not afraid of needles you should look into thymosin alpha 1, its an extremely potent immuno modulator and immune enhancing peptide used to treat cancer, autoimmune diseases, etc. There's also an oral alternative called thymogen alpha 1 but its pretty expensive, I believe 120$ per month but its gonna be more effective than anything else.

Yes, I have tried Colostrum, I've tried almost every immune supplement. Theirs also an active ingredient in colostrum called lactoferrin which I have also tried, I didn't notice a significant benefit from either. If you do decide to try them take it after your workout since colostrum has been shown to improve the immune system post workout when its the least active. Zinc is great but I have tried Black seed oil yet, I do plan on trying it soon.

I know having immune problems suck man, don't worry, it will get better! Vitamin D will help you with covid more than anything by far. I remember seeing something about the fact that 80% of covid deaths can be prevented by supplementing with vitamin D. 10,000 iu and 200 k2 will make you feel a lot better, with some zinc in there and you'll be good.

Good luck, lmk how everything goes.

Glutathione 6 grams per day, glycine 12 grams per day, ala 2.4 grams per day, u already mentioned zinc and vitamin c... I take all those pretty much year around and also 9-12 grams of nac per day... I haven't been seriously sick in a very long time... just run down and fatigued which is easy to push through... good luck buddy

Hey mate

How are you using the Suppress-C?

I have a bottle here just now. Are you using 2 pumps a day or a lower dose for an extended period?

Where's best to apply it also?

I use 2 pumps/day, applied a couple hours before I go to sleep. I'm ~4 bottles into my 'current run', but generally speaking I run this almost year round. Theres usually a month or 2 a year I get tired of applying TD's and take a break lol. Its basically a staple for me, if only for the improved sleep I get from it.

As for where it's best to apply thats pretty subjective with this IMO. Tops of feet, shins, shoulders... really just whatever is most convenient for you.

Hey mate. Thanks!

I'm actually going to side line this idea. The reason is. I just checked my cortisol saliva test their and my cortisol levels are actually on the low end just now.

A reason I done a cortisol test was because I was feeling slightly sluggish and done a bunch of tests. I also noticed that if I supplemented DHEA I felt like sh*t. DHEA lowers cortisol and I think in turn making me feel like trash. Anytime I took DHEA I also woke up soaked in sweat. This is a classic low cortisol symptom.

I know we view cortisol as a devil. In high amounts it is which alot of people suffer with due to stress and if your a major stimulant/coffee user. We also need cortisol in balance to function.

So I will just ditch this for now.

I wonder if my cortisol might actually be too low and impacting my immune system? Hmmm. Might be worth looking into.

Personally have had some success with:

1) SNS Immune Support XT. I take this during crazier times of year when I feel I might benefit.

2) Various adaptogens and mushrooms to help me feel like I am recovering well from training, which seems to keep me from catching things as often.

3) Things to help keep my overall stress down during more stressful periods like SNS Stress and Anxiety XT.

Honestly though you've had a few posts over the last few months and I can't help but think most of the things you've been dealing with just seem to be stemming from some form of over work. Stressful job, burnout, additional hormones, etc just seem like things have been pushed further than your body can recover from and therefore leaving your more susceptible to various issues.

You may still just be on the return from some burnout, but also just potentially someone who is more likely to have these issues. Other suggestions in this thread may be of use with all that in mind.

Hey man 👍

Thanks for all the suggestions. Immune XT is popping up alot so I will look into this.

Your 100% right about the stress aspect. I will add in that I actually quit my job recently. I quit it because my health was failing and I wasn't accepting it. I live in Scotland and was working an outdoor job. The weather here is trash and working in it 50+ hours a week was seriously f*cking me up. An example. The winter last year it dropped to - 14 degress C / 6 Fahrenheit. Freezing cold. I was sitting stationary on a machine with zero cover over me for 9 hours a day. I was shaking that bad I couldn't speak. Just unhealthy. The pay was trash also so I walked in a few weeks back and just said... I'm finished and walked out. I'm comfortable financially so I'm not stressing about money. I had to quit and focus on myself.

My hormones are now perfectly balanced. I've done over 20 bloodworks this year to dial it in 100%. Amazing difference tbh.

Your right though it could be all of these now catching up with me.

I'm trying to focus on re-building my health. This includes mental health also. It was really bad for a year.

I'm back training 4 days a week. My diets all changed for health and I'm also just enjoying this break at the moment. Trying to get my sleep good also.

Without your health you have nothing.

Like you said, nac has been studied for respiratory health. Breaks up mucus, helps breath easier, good for people fopr asthma , more than like. I take it daily, smaller dosed, along wioth milk thistle small dose, first thing upon awaking , liver enzymes ast and alt have improved quite signifantly (along with some other health markers, although i think they were from me not stressing and being depressed and replaying something that occurs in beginning of 2023)

Vit C of course. Black elderberry has been shown to be good as an antibotic for sinus and respitory infections. Make sure the company uses it from an Sambucus canadensis tree. Sambucol is a good brand. I can down with a bad sinus, mucus last week, mine ran out, and wal mart didnt carry the adult brand so I bought kids brand. The gummies arnt worth it as each gummy has like 25 mgs, the syrup has 1.9 grans per 10 mls. Plus gummys cause cavaities. Had to learn that from expirience and figure out why I kept got fillings/ Vit D is ovcerlooked as everyone knows about C, when sick Vit D 10,000-30,000 ius is fine, even 50,000 ; although in some may effect sleep

L-Glutamine is great for the gut and may boost the immune system

If you are getting sick every 2-3 months l’d get to a Dr give urine give blood and start from there. Something seems very wrong but you say your hormones are perfectly balanced and done 20 bloods. Lol this all makes no sense.why would you do 20 bloods in a year?
Seriously. People bombarding him with supplement recommendations, when he needs to go see his Doctor. Sounds like his WBC count is low.

It’s unreal man. All people here seem to do is push supplements on everyone. Can’t act like you care when you are giving advice that doesn’t benefit the original poster but benefits the supplement company. Terrible man like absolutely terrible.
Not everyone only recommended supplements and he literally asked “Can you actually improve your immune system using supplements?” in a supplement section of a forum. Why wouldn’t the majority of responses be about supplements?

It’s usually best when people post in various sections to reply in regards to that subset of their concerns. If we spent time fully dissecting everyone’s life, training, diet, etc. (which honestly plenty of people still do by asking questions to get posters to elaborate for better answers) it would often not get the original questions answered.

There is a way to go about this to help guide people past just (in this instance and section) supplement suggestions, but responses like this don’t help anyone.

If you want to present evidence that no supplements actually could be of benefit go ahead and present that, at least then you’d be addressing his actual question posted in the original comment.

That was never anyone's intention, I asked him if he had any medical conditions that could explain his bad immune system. The question he posted was asking about immune enhancing supplements, so we have him supplements. I also recommend him some that would boost his white blood cell count.

Certainly does sound like his wbc is low and idk what can cause that. I work with a guy same situation he is literally sick every 3 months for a like 3/5 days. I moved to Fla 2 years ago and in the two years I been with my company he has ben sick like 10-12 times easily.
Yeah, if you’re routinely getting sick it seems the only logical route to take is getting blood work done. I can appreciate guys making supplement suggestions, but it’s essentially pissing in the wind until the guy gets his labs back to find out what exactly is going on.

I agree that he needs to go to a doctor if he is getting sick often and hasn't been to one; but I think that most people may have assumed he has because he mentioned having a ton of bloodwork done in the last year.

I think like the others have said, the reason that people are mainly making supplement suggestions is because he posted it in the supplement section and specifically asked for supplement suggestions.

If I'm not mistaken, @bell1986 does normally post questions in different sections based off of what type of advice he's looking for or what types of questions that he has.

I expect that he likely appreciates people helping with different types of advice, but I think that the amount of answers related to supplements were just because that's what he asked about and people were just trying to answer his questions.
