Anyone been to London?

I'm leaving for London on the 20th.....was wondering if anyone has been there that tell me what to see and do while I'm there???

if first time do the basics. get on a tour bus, london eye, river boat, windsor castle. use the underground and train for all transport. how long you going for?

I really liked the Tower of London, we walked almost every where we went when we were over there.. one thing that the wife and I both talk about was getting to see Phantom of the Opera with the original case at the Her Majesty's Theater. Also love the side trip to Straford on Avon.. that was fun except for caring a ton of china back that the wife found for her out of stock pattern.. ;)

Go to the Texas Embassy :) It's a restaurant now, and not even in the actual building that the Texas Embassy was originally in, but it's close. The mexican food is... well.. okay.. but hey, it's the Texas Embassy! I was a nerd and did all the tours, saw parliament, big ben, london bridge, buckingham palace, eye of london, all the "city" things on one trip. On two other trips, I went and visited many of the castles in the countryside. Too bad you're going to be there when it's so cold!! And British women are not hot... sorry.

Go to Amsterdam... I lived there for 6 months... it is THE BOMB!

When I was in London I did the usual touristy things like visiting most of the places above. I didn't go on a tour bus but it could save you some time to visit a bunch of places in a row and I recommend it.
Madam Tussauds wax museum was tourist trap where I lined up for 1 hour+ just to get in. A nearby castle tour which I visited and recommend is Hampton court.

Cool thanks for the ideas guys...I'm a pretty active person soo I plan to see as much as possible in that week. Amsterdam is on my list as my family is from a small subburb there. Keep the ideas coming if you can - again thanks guys.....I'll share the pics when I get back.

Hey just out of curiousity is there any dance clubs there I can visit??

Headnurse, i live in London so can answer some questions for you if you like. For clubs checkout Invalid Link Removed , seriously cool site!
If you want to go on the eye book it on the web first or you will que for hours, a boat trip is a good way to see the city, try the Duck tour, its a bus that goes round the city then turns into a boat and goes down the thames. Covent garden can be entertaining when you have had enough of the touristy stuff...

Yup! its freezing here at the mome, but dont worry, when you know where to look you will find plenty of hot women.

Amsterdam is pretty cool and only 35min flight. Avoid the super tacky tourist areas near the train station and head further back inot the Jordan District, some cool bars, check out Anne Franks house and the van gogh museum too.

Cool this sounds great!!!!! Will check out the web site in a minute.

Okay you guys talked about the chicks over there - but I'm looking for hot guys.....I might get lonely ya know hehehe

The london eye is way cool. If you book a fast track ticket on the net you pay a bit more but when you get there one of the staff will escort you past all the queuing suckers and open up the barrier so you get straight on. and you get a free book with it.

Covent garden is cool too, watching the street entertainers is fun if you find a good one.
get a day, or week, travel ticket for the underground train/bus otherwise you pay a ton getting different tickets.

One thing i love about london is the level of customer service you get in all the bars/ restrants etc. much better than where i live.

stavross

For the london eye tickets:

Invalid Link Removed

And for the travel tickets you can use your credit card in a machine in the train stations.

I don't know if you can use this in the states but Invalid Link Removed might give you a better price for the london eye or other attractions.

Hope you have a nice time.

London has plenty of really good dance clubs. The Egg, Fabric, The Cross, The End, Pacha, Turnmills, Ministry of Sound.
Just choose one of those depending on what sort of genre of dance music you like. You really are spoilt for choice.

Also check out Invalid Link Removed This website gives reviews and pics of past nights and details of up coming events not just for clubs in the uk but all over the world too.

I've wanted to go for a longgg time, when the offer was made - how could I pass it up. I was suppose to go earlier this year but had to put it off due to family issues.....I have VERY high hopes for this trip. Keep you fingers crossed for me - if all goes well Febuary could be very marry for me hehehe

OK, you can get most places IN London by subway "Mind the Gap".
Combine trips
When you go to Stonehenge, take the train from there to Bath also. It makes a good full day.
Windsor Castle is a must
The British Art museum off Trafalgar Square is a "gotta see" and the Museum of History (rosetta stone, greek ruins, etc..) is walking distance from the Tottenham Sub station, behind the downtown/uptown YMCA. These two can easily fill a day.
When I was there, as I understand it still is today, everything was the equivalent price in lbs as it would be here in dollars. So a $10 meal here was £10 there or about $15-$16 (2002), so look at the exchange rate and plan accordingly. London has every type of food imagineable, right off the main streets.
Enjoy yourself, travel AS A GROUP, do not walk alone!!!!
You'll have a blast. Remember, the British ruled the world for a while and stole most of the really cool stuf for their museums.
The art in the Trafalgar Square museum has such depth and color, it's almost impossible to believe some of it is 400-500 years old.
If you have a digital camera, make it a small one (pocket or purse size) that uses AA batteries. (you will be less willing to haul a large SLR type camera around). You should have at least 512mb - a gig worth of cards and at 3MP size(perfect for almost all shots), you can take about 500-1000 shots with that.

Have a blast....

This is soooo cool.....my list of things to see and do is growing!!!!!! I just might have to extend my vacation by a few more days giggle giggle. Please keep the ideas coming.
I will take a digital and a 35mm - I should say there will be several digitals in the group and I will have my 35mm (a nurse buddy will develop and tweek my photos - she owns a gallery too).

£10 is about $17.50 USD.
