I hope that everyone is doing well and having a great summer so far.

SummerOfSupplements2V2-1000x200.png

We have a lot of fun and exciting things happening with both SNS and Competitive Edge Labs (CEL) so I wanted to make a thread that everyone could follow along and keep up with the new things happening, discuss them, and just overall interact and have positive conversation.

We have a LOT of new products that will be launching under both companies. These products will all have their own individual launch threads but I’ll also put links for them in here to make it easy to follow and keep up with. But please also show some support for the individual threads as well.

Remember, the better the products do and the more people you tell, the more new ones that we can come out with for you.

I have quite a few ideas for the Summer of Supplement promo and I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions.

Some of the things that you’ll likely see are:
  • New Product Releases
  • Stack Deals (Some will be ongoing and some will be limited time deals)
  • Multi-Pack Combo Deals – like 3 packs at a discount, that type of thing
  • Product Giveaways
  • & More
If anyone has any ideas for things they’d like to see, like a suggestion for a 3-pack or even a 6-pack product deal, let me know. I can’t promise we can do, but if we can, I’ll make it happen.

I’m also open to products ideas and suggestions and things that people would like to see from us. I’m going to do a separate thread for that but you’re welcome to make suggestions here too.

Help Us Help You:
One thing too I’d love to have input and suggestions on is anything that anyone can think of, suggest, or would like to see us do to help improve awareness of the brands. We make some great products but overall, not enough people know about us. I’m at fault for this in a big way because I love helping people, the science side of things, and formulating new products – but I don’t like the marketing side of things very much. That’s something as a company that we have to improve on, and we’re definitely working on improving the basics. But if anyone has any suggestions, I’m open to them – and if its something you’d rather discuss privately than openly, feel free to pm me.

Let’s have fun and keep this thread positive.

I also wanted to go ahead and add that for people that aren't familiar with Muscle Addiction, there is also a July 4th sale for the Muscle Addiction brand and its extended as well. I normally don't post anything here related to Muscle Addiction but they have a couple of really cool products coming out soon, one of which I'm especially excited about so I wanted to introduce the brand to anyone not familiar with it.

As many know, we have been working on getting quality raw materials for TTA-500 for a very long time and are extremely happy to let you know that we do now have a limited number of TTA-500 units available for sale.

If all goes well, we should be adding TTA-500 back to being a regular part of our product lineup by the end of the year but for right now there are a limited number of units available so its likely best to view this as a 'While Supplies Last' type of situation.

TTA-500 Intro Thread:

I've jokingly said that if SNS and CEL are viewed as siblings, Muscle Addiction is kind of the adopted sibling or step-sibling haha.

In reality, even though people on here a lot of times view SNS and CEL as the same, both are completely separate companies and ran independently of one another. And in the overall market outside AM, both generally have different customer bases and I would say that 95%+ of people don't know that there is any connection at all between them.

I've never mentioned Muscle Addiction much on here but it does have some great products and there are a couple of new products coming out soon from Muscle Addiction that I'm particularly excited about, especially the Recovery Fix product which is designed to help alleviate soreness. For some bodybuilders, being so sore you can't hardly move is a positive thing or part of bragging rights, but for the average person, being sore sucks haha.

In for the fun! But regarding the marketing, have you looked into Instagram/Facebook marketing? Even constant contact emails? They're all a bit annoying, but effective.

Man this is awesome! Super excited about all the new products!

I’ve joked about this with you before I think but fully sponsoring me and my firefighter/dad bod would be pretty sweet lol. I do have 155 IG followers lol.

I like the ideas of the stacks. Mixing and matching with your new stuff would be good. I think I’d love anything with AE!

I wish that we could do things like that but the websites are completely separate and independent of one another and not linked together in any way. We generally do offer the same coupons across the sites so that the discount opportunities are normally the same.

So the only real drawback is having to pay shipping if you don't hit the minimum for free shipping if wanting to order from the different brands but we offer free shipping on a lower amount than most sites do and then flat rate shipping as well for domestic orders, so we try to be as accommodating as possible.

I do wish that we could do it too though bc it would make for some cool stack potential.

We have it in stock now so it'll definitely be released in the next few weeks. We've just had so many things come in at once that we're having to space the releases out some so that nothing gets overlooked.

We don't sell directly on Amazon. Up to this point, we sell to resellers that sell on Amazon. One of the problems with that is that most of them are only interested in buying products that are already listed rather than listing new products. And also, they may list them but don't put any effort into selling them. Amazon is its own world when it comes to supplements - there are many good selling brands on there that don't exist outside of Amazon but then many brands that sell well outside of Amazon barely have a presence there.

We've been considering starting to do direct sales on Amazon and it may be something we do in the future. But that's not a quick process if its done the right way.

Definitely think this would help sales, plus I'd be all for being able to purchase a bottle of something here and there more regularly knowing I can get free shipping with prime + reliably fast shipping (vs other supp retailers).

One issue, from a supply chain perspective, is managing inventory across multiple Fulfillment centers. Large general merchandise brands tend to hire 1-2 people to manage this process. Essentially “Amazon specialists”.

I used to have a D2C brand (not supplements) a few years back that I eventually brought on to Amazon. It’s not terribly difficult, especially at the abysmal volume I was moving lol, but also takes a fair amount of time to set up and get running. They also take a good percentage of your margins.

It’s probably the right business move to be active on there, but I totally get the time commitment for launching your brand on Amazon.

And, let’s be honest - there are hundreds of brands with thousands of similar products. How will SNS differentiate itself among a sea of competitors? Us on AM are well aware that Steve’s formulas are superior, and at a great price point, and that he actually ensures what’s stated on the label is actually in the product (huge issue NOW has been calling out via testing)… but we represent the 1% of people who look beyond flashy labels and stuff like that. You need a big marketing budget to run sponsored products to make sure you’re on page 1 or 2 of search results. Then, you also have to factor in that you really need tons and tons of reviews to stay on one of those first few pages.

Take a look at Genius Supplements. They’ve done a great job of marketing their products on Amazon, but, you also need to consider they were acquired for $17M by a private equity firm 3 years ago (from some research I did), so they have the funds to do so. I also think Genius Supplements and Catalyst Nutraceuticals (contract manufacturer) have the same mailing address, so that would help keep margins low if Genius is a brand of a contract manufacturer.

In theory, launching on Amazon via Prime sounds easy, but execution can be tough. I liked that Amazon handled all of my logistics needs (outbound shipping, returns), but it’s very costly depending on what margins already are.

There's pro's and con's to it like with most things. It's something we're working on but it has to be done a certain way to be done correctly. There's a lot of stuff that goes on with Amazon and supplements that people don't necessarily realize. A lot of their policies make it harder on legit companies whereas fly by night and scam ones just don't care so they pop on and off of there.

We do free shipping ourselves over a certain amount and we ship same or next business day.

I feel like a lot of the single ingredient stuff you guys have would wind up doing really well on Amazon.
I agree that it could but one problem with Amazon is that when you first create a listing, its hard for customers to find it even if you type it in by name. I remember when the listing was created for PEAK02 caps, you could type in SNS PEAK02 and it was still on page 3.

The analogy for supplements on Amazon is the reason that a lot of supplement companies aren't on Amazon or don't try very hard on Amazon is because they're competing with marketing companies that just happen to sell supplements. One brand that's very popular on there, I remember they launched a product and within 2 months supposedly had 1100 reviews which is virtually impossible if done honestly. But they know the system and how to do it. But on the other hand, you take a legit company that does it the right way it would take years to get that many people to leave reviews.

I also feel Amazon has brands it likes- it’s own brands, first, then companies like Genius and Jacked Factory that it always suggests.

Also, their rules on supplements change a lot and it’s annoying as a consumer that things aren’t steadily available.

Is SR10X a branded ingredient similar to ApiPure that hasn’t been marketed by the supplier yet?
Not the same supplier nor the same situation.

As you probably know, I love the science side of things and I've done raw material sourcing for many years. This sometimes puts me in really cool situations about having access to ingredients that normally a company our size may not and/or knowing about new ingredients before they come out or are officially released.

A lot of times, branded ingredients are available before they're officially available bc the branded ingredient companies are strategic in their approaches with the best times of year to launch them from a sales and marketing strategy standpoint. Sometimes, they don't want the ingredients on the market at all before the official launch like that but other times they're fine with getting the name out there to create demand.

As a company, its funny sometimes to hear consumer perception of the companies. Some people very familiar with us assume we're a lot bigger than we are but then some people that aren't as familiar assume we're a lot smaller. We're not nearly as big as some people thing but not nearly as small as some people think either. We're not a big brand but a lot of times, we're a brand that I think some bigger brands look at to see what branded ingredients we're working with.

^^^ Where I'm going with that is that sometimes that can serve as almost a form of free advertising for the branded ingredient companies if we start using an ingredient before its official launch (not just free advertising, but they're already making a profit off the materials). I hope that makes sense.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, to answer your question directly.

ApiPure Apigenin:
As some people know, it is common to see Apigenin %'s that vary from as little as 1% all the way up to 98%.

For 98%+ versions, there is a lot of quality and price discrepancy in the marketplace, as is common with ingredients standardized to this high of a %.

ApiPure Apigenin is a tm ingredient and they don't make any claims that it's anymore special than any other 98%+ pure Apigenin. They're just offering a legit quality supply chain solution for reliable pricing, quality, and consistency from batch to bath.

I'll give you an example to compare this to - Cornerstone HICA. Cornerstone HICA is a tm form of HICA that I have spoken highly of in the past. The company that has the tm on it, Creative Compounds, they don't market it as being any different than any other HICA product or anything particularly special compared to others. The benefit of theirs is that you (as a brand and as a consumer) know that you're getting consistent quality from batch to batch.

I hope that makes sense.

SR10X:
SR10X is a different supplier and different situation than ApiPure Apigenin because with SR10X, it is something very unique, different, and special as compared to other forms of Symplocos.

I had included some info in the Recomp20 write up about that:

The SR10X™ Difference:
It’s all about the extraction - As with most herbs, its not the parent herb that delivers the benefits, it’s the active constituent(s) that are responsible for the results. A good well-known example of this would be Turmeric as a parent herb but Curcumin being the constituent that delivers the benefits. Another well-known example would be Milk Thistle being the parent herb but Silymarin being the constituent that delivers the benefits.

Most suppliers sell cheap Symplocos/Lodhra powder that isn’t even extracted at all (despite some claiming otherwise).

SR10X™ is a specialized Symplocos Racemosa Extract standardized to a minimum 10% Tannins.

-------------

I hope this helps answers your questions.

In some cases I can give general answers on branded ingredients but in others I can't say much due to NDA's.

No, it will not. I was just using Cornerstone HICA as a familiar example in the above post.

Phosphatidic Acid XT will be 4 capsules per day. Adding HICA at an effective dose would have taken 2 more capsules all on its own to add and would have also increased the product price so I didn't feel like it would be a good option to add it to that formula.

If you like HICA and like products that reduce soreness in general, I do know of a product coming out soon that you'll probably really like ;)

The product has been ready to launch for awhile but did something we don't normally do with this one - to gauge the effectiveness and scope of feedback on this one, we gave some out to a variety of different types of people - athletes (pro boxer), bodybuilders, several women that their reason for not starting or not starting back to working out was because of not wanting to be too sore, and to elderly people that were having issues with muscle soreness and it interfering with their day to day lives. The feedback on the product has been great.

Great to the point that we're considering making a slightly modified version of it as a separate product if we do the SNS Anti-Aging/Longevity sub-brand that we've been considering.

i think it got to the point where whatever that co was gonna put out would be questioned.

Kinda not fair to them but from us customer view, can't blame us either.

Anyway drop your feedback and comparison if you can.

Do companies create their own branded ingredients along the way just to make things look better? As is you take an unbranded one and make it your own? I’ve always thought that was a halfway decent strategy

That does happen sometimes. Sometimes there's something unique about their ingredient; other times they're just doing it for marketing purposes - as in something specific to their brand.

But that's not the case with any of the ones that we're discussing above.

People often confuse the term 'branded ingredients' with thinking that they're all in some way clinically researched themselves or that they are patented or something like that. At its premise, the term branded ingredient is really just that - a 'branded' ingredient as in the ingredient itself has a brand name to it. Then there are cases where some have specific patents related to them but then some don't. And there are also cases where there is something specific or special about the particular form or extract but then cases where there is not. Sometimes the something special is just the fact that the ingredient is what it is and that customers (and companies) can rest assured that the ingredient is what its supposed to be.

This is a subject that I'm definitely going to write a very in depth article on as soon as I have the time to. I already started it, I've just been so busy with finalizing formulations and write ups that I hadn't had the chance to finish it yet.
