Cannabidiol has made a massive impact in recent years and for good reason.
Specifically for athletes and bodybuilders CBD has properties that make it exceptionally beneficial.
As we train and grow we deal with sore muscles, and other aches and pains. Traditional pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetamenophen have troubling negative effects such as liver damage, heart problems and ulcers. CBD has none of these negatives and for most works as well or better for aches and pain.

Why use CBD?
CBD is extracted from HEMP and while it may be slightly relaxing for some there is no intoxication like with THC. CBD has been studied for a wide range of purposes including but not limited to:
Pain relief
Inflammation
high Blood pressure
Chemotherapy adjunct
Nausea
sleep
Anxiety
Depression
PTSD

Cannabinoids are potent anti inflammatory agents and work exceptionally well for pain suppression but they are great for so much more.

CBD and the brain.
CBD has been shown to have significant positive effects in the brain. Aside from managing pain CBD is neuroprotective as it works as a cerebral antioxidant, helps clear environmental toxins and protects DNA.
A study by Cheng et al., published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2014, found that long-term CBD treatment “prevents the development of social recognition memory deficits in Alzheimer’s disease transgenic mice.” The researchers also wrote that CBD exerts anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and neuroprotective properties in vitro and in vivo.
CBD helps protect against excitotoxins.
Excitotoxicity is the damage caused when our brain cells become overactive due to excessive stimulation. It can result from traumatic brain injury, stroke, hearing loss, and neurodegenerative diseases of the CNS, including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s.

Glutamine-dependent excitotoxicity is seen in practically every age-related neurodegenerative disease and brain disorder. It also happens to be one of the main molecular mechanisms noted in epilepsy. In recent times, there has been an increasing level of research into CBD as a treatment for neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

A study by Pretzsch et al., published in the Neuropsychopharmacology journal in February 2019, looked at the effects of CBD on brain excitation and inhibition systems. The team concluded that CBD could ‘shift’ the level of Glx and GABA+ metabolites; they are known to contribute to the regulation of inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmission in the autistic and typical brains. The researchers pointed out that further studies were required.

This of course is in contrast to THC which has been shown to cause potentialls irreversible long term damage to the brain.
Rats exposed to THC before birth, soon after birth, or during adolescence show notable problems with specific learning and memory tasks later in life.32–34 Cognitive impairments in adult rats exposed to THC during adolescence are associated with structural and functional changes in the hippocampus.35–37 Studies in rats also show that adolescent exposure to THC is associated with an altered reward system, increasing the likelihood that an animal will self-administer other drugs (e.g., heroin) when given an opportunity.
Some studies suggest regular marijuana use in adolescence is associated with altered connectivity and reduced volume of specific brain regions involved in a broad range of executive functions such as memory, learning, and impulse control compared to people who do not use.38,39 Other studies have not found significant structural differences between the brains of people who do and do not use the drug.
Several large scale studies have shown that THC causes functional impairment of cognitive abilities, lower verbal memory, reaction times and executive funtion.
Some studies in fact show that the use of THC causes IQ to decline. In one study up to 8 point loss in IQ.
Finally THC use can cause loss of neurons in the hippocampus which reduces your ability to learn new information.

How is our CBD product different.
We use a Full spectrum extract that retains all of the important cannabinoids and terpenes.
We take advantage of the "entourage effect" to ensure you not only absorb more of the CBD but also benefit from the lack of a bell curve response as CBD isolates have a minimum dose required for effect and also a drop off of effect at a certain point. This is not seen with Full spectrum extracts.

Cannabis is Greater than the Sum of its Parts

When CBD oil retains the full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes and phenolics, we often see two results: lower doses are required, and the bell-shaped response curve disappears. Why does this happen?
Back-up support: First off, many terpenes and phenolics have effects similar to those of CBD on mood, pain and inflammation. Although CBD has more than 65 targets throughout the body, its activity at each individual target varies. Other members of the entourage could be even more effective than CBD where you need it most.

Complementary paths to the same outcome: When looking for relief from a complex issue like anxiety, there are often multiple paths that lead to the same outcome. While CBD is busy acting on serotonin receptors, other entourage compounds might focus on other neurotransmitters. Complementary pathways are why CBD and the SSRI fluoxetine are effective against depression at lower doses when taken together in rodent experiments.

Counteracting downsides: Scientists think purified CBD (ISOLATE) has a bell-shaped dose response curve because it activates different targets at different concentrations. For instance, CBD relieves anxiety at moderate doses (through 5-HT1A receptors) but might trigger anxiety-inducing neurotransmitters at high doses (through TRPV1 receptors). In this way, the higher dose doesn’t turn off the positive effects — it just turns on negative effects that obscure the benefits. However, the bell-shaped curve disappears when purified CBD is combined with molecules that block TRPV1 (which some natural flavonoids do).

Bioavailability: CBD alone might not absorb or travel as far through the body without its entourage. A few of the terpenoids found in cannabis extracts are so good at moving drugs across skin barriers that they are added to products designed for transdermal delivery.

Metabolism: Many members of the entourage are metabolised by the same enzymes as CBD (cytochrome p450). This means that the entourage could delay CBD from being broken down by the body — keeping CBD in circulation and effective longer.

Source Matters

We’re all concerned about what we put in our bodies, but many CBD oil brands aren’t so cautious — motivated more by their bottom line.
In addition to choosing cheaper CBD isolate (which is less effective than broad and full-spectrum CBD) some brands use CBD from overseas sources with lower purity standards. That’s why it’s vitally important that your extracts come from a trustworthy source that follows sustainable & organic farming best-practices — otherwise, synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and even heavy metals could be surprise guests in your daily dose of CBD.

Full spectrum CBD extracts a full profile of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant. Full spectrum will contain trace amounts of THC, but not enough to get you “high.”
Because full spectrum CBD contains the full profile of beneficial compounds in the cannabis plant, it creates what is known as the entourage effect. Researchers of the entourage effect have found the therapeutic effects of cannabis are most powerful when the whole plant is used and all beneficial compounds synergistically work together.

CBD isolate will not produce the entourage effect, and it may be trickier to find your most effective dosage with isolate.
In fact, Canadian researchers found that CBD isolate has a minimum and maximum threshold of effectiveness. This means you must take a certain amount (minimum threshold) for it to be effective, and there’s a limit of what you can consume in a day (maximum threshold), before the beneficial effects rapidly wear off.

They found that full spectrum CBD did not show the same minimum and maximum threshold of effectiveness.
Because the whole plant is being used, the entourage effect in full spectrum CBD creates a more effective, therapeutic product.

Yes sir
IMO Full spectrum is vastly better than isolate.
I agree. It would be cool if you had a sleep specific terpene cbd lol I’d buy a poop ton from you. I’ve found a single (reliable) vendor who makes a sleep specific cbd/terpene.

So ours is 15% terpenes, phenolics and other cannabiniods like CBG.
This first product is sort of a test run. I have several CBD based products in the works.
Maybe we can do a high terpene product.

I've utilized a handful of CBD oils from different reputable sources, never noticed much outside of deeper sleep.. which is a big reason that I decided to pick some of this up.

In regards to the Black lion CBD... I've been taking 1/2 a ML twice daily, thinking I'll bump it up to 1ML twice daily.

Side note: Happy to report this oil is virtually tasteless, compared to some others I've tried that are extremely earthy. Goes down easy(y)

I take 1ml, hold under tongue a few minutes, swallow, and on an empty stomach. I get a nice anti inflammatory effect, and muscle relaxation. Great post workout.

The only thing I've noticed thus far (two days in) is very deep sleep.

I'm actually out of the gym for the time being, so can't comment on it assisting with body pains from activity.

Going to bump the dosage (mostly out of curiosity) and will follow up.

Its very clean. We have extracted most of the earthy stuff and basically only cannabinoids, terpenes and phenolics remain.
The taste bothered me with some others as well. Even the "flavored" ones were brutal.

So an additional interesting difference between Full spectrum (BLR) and isolates is that isolates tend to have a bell curved effect.
Meaning at low doses=no effect
Mid doses =effect
High doses=no effect or limited.
Full spectrum, however, seems to continue to have a stronger dose dependent effect curve. Which means if you need more strength you can just administer more. In addition for the quality you will have a hard time finding a comparable product.
Please do let us know if you have any additional comments or experiences.

My personal use of CBD is relatively new so I am super curious.
Please chime in and let us know what you think!

Also keep in mind CBD has no intoxicating or euphoria effects.
When people say they "feel" CBD this is generally feeling less anxiety, better sleep, Less aches and pains.
For me the above effects give CBD its value.

Getting rid of some stress/anxiety is certainly the goal, in my case...

The only thing so far that's helped my anxiety is adderall. It makes me chill as a cucumber and very pleasant to be around. Unfortunately I don't have a prescription, so I've been venturing into over the counter options (CBD, nootropics, even have some kratom on the way).

We shall see!
