A couple of years ago I was behind a guy in the checkout line at the supplement store and this guy had a neck on him I have never forgotten. Not only was his neck big but it was defined and the muscle groups running up the back of his neck to his head were very pronounced. -

I cannot find (google, yahoo) any pics out there with peoples neck development. Any pics of awesome neck development would be appreciated. -- need some inspiration for my workouts and see tons of other body part.

Do you mean the actual neck like lineman or brock lessnar or the traps. I'd guess the harness would give the largest neck. I personally already have a large neck so I would never try and make it larger. If you mean traps I found that the best thing is power shrugs. Basically you use your back to get a little momentum and then hold at the top for a one second count. I did these for 3 weeks instead of regular shrugs and saw very noticable improvements.

Back in high school, we had a "neck machine". I haven't specifically trained the neck since... and it seems pretty beefy. IIRC ~18"

18.5" and I am absolutely not satisfied with it. It seems just about parallel my arm development though, as do my calves, so I probably can't raise it too far without gaining on the others as well.

This thread inspired me to start working it out directly though, which I did last night and am definitely feeling today!

Pain in the neck eh?:icon_lol:

It has to be genetic... Neither my dad nor my grandpa train their traps or their neck and they both have rather large diameter muscled necks.

LOL.... I saw a scrawny ass guy at the gym yesterday training neck... He had a leather head harness on connected to the cable weights. Half the people in the gym were pointing and giggling at how messed up it looked this guy pulling the preacher curl seat in the cable rack to work neck. It was all I could do to not laugh myself because of just how messed up that head harness looked on that tiny guy straining to pull 10-20 lbs...

I have a pretty thick neck from just bodybuilding.

I joined a new gym that has a neck machine and today before cardio I did the neck machine side to side. A flexible large neck does have benegits like whiplash. turnign your nack really fast.

Used to do shrugs-not anymore

Used to hang my neck off of a bench with weight on my head and do neck raises-This is good for boxing as it prevents the neck snapping if you get hit.

I really dont need a bigger neck and I might as well use the side to side machine before cardio if its their.

Some people have said that Arnold has too small of a neck. No worries though he made it regardless of what what say

19.5" or 20" if i flex it. pic over <----there. I have a big head as well.

don't train it just lift really heavy things.

only time i trained was neck bridges and rolls in HS wrestling. long time ago.

Victor Richards has a 24 inch neck.

his build esp midsection resemble Ronnie Coleman alot.

I agree. Id rather look like Arnold than a mass monster with a gut. No offense to the people that want to look like this. This look is now out and a flatter stomach is now what the judges look for in bodybuilding. Thank God!

his whole midsection/chest/vascularity in his arms looks exactly like ronnie especially the first pic, honestly it looks like somone put his head on ronnies body.

its called photoshop....

I have unproportional traps compared to the rest of my body. Since I am a powerlifter, that shelf has to be large enough to stabilize heavy squats and stay tight for heavy pulls. Throughout the week I do heavy db rows, high volume db shrugs, high volume face pulls, heavy rack pulls, reverse band deads and lots of rear delt work and all of this combined makes them grow at a very unproportional rate.

actually that first pic of vic richards in the gladiator get up is actually ronnie coleman's body, its photoshopped.

I don't know if you're being serious or not, but that was actually my first thought. I thought it looked rather close to Big Ron's traps and most predominately that puffed out midsection.

Some people are into the bodybuilding philosophy of proportion and symmetry (which I am too for the most part), however, I think overwhelming traps just make you look beastly, so do out of proportion forearms. Guns look bigger when the forearms are legit and the back looks beastly when the traps are an unavoidable sight.

Big props to those big traps of yours.

My traps are unproportional, just the way I like 'em. Traps add impression of upper body size, which comes in handy for the lazier of us

My neck (ie as the traps end) is ~17.5, back when I was dedicated to lifting it was ~19.5. I contribute that to all the extra blood flow though.

Oh and I never specifically trained traps, compounds are king imo.

damn this is making me want to train my neck.
Can i just hold a weight above my head and lay off the bench and bend it up? ive never worked my neck before. thanks.

This is my first post guys but I had to share this with you. My dads uncle only met him a few times before he passed had a 32 inch neck. Man was just huge.. His fingers were like bratwurst he used to scare the crap out of me..

Squats... squat for reps with weight in front of a mirror and you'll see your neck muscles poppin out. I couldn't squat for some months earlier this year and it actually shrank.

whATS a bridge?

its a wrestling thing. You can use the strength of your neck to create a bridge, as in not letting your shoulders get pinned to the ground. So you pull all your weight, and the other guys on your bum/legs, plus head, and your neck has to handle all that stress.

Workouts for this included that machine where you use your head to move it while keeping body still.

Also going tripod on your feet and the top of your head. Then using your hands to hold yourself up(for protection) and lowering your head side to side, back and forward forcing yourself up.... also laying on your back, then doing the maneuver like practice increases your strength...

Wow its been so long since wrestling....man do I miss those days...
