Watch Bodybuilder Matt Morsia Struggle with Brian Shaw’s 10,000 Calorie Diet

YouTuber and bodybuilder Matt Morsia — a.k.a. MattDoesFitness — is always looking for a new fitness challenge to take on.

Well, it looks like Matt Morsia has found another way to challenge himself as a YouTuber and share the extreme experience with his fans. Matt Morsia — a.k.a. MattDoesFitness on YouTube tried out Brian Shaw’s intense strongman diet, which involves eating more than 10,000 calories a day across 7 meals. You can check out the video above in full to see how that experiment went down for him.

Obviously, strongmen and powerlifters have insane diets because their bodies burn up a ton of fuel. For a better idea of just how intense this is, you can watch the following video from Men’s Health below, where Brian Shaw details just how much he eats every single day. He described it as doing an intense diet challenge “every single day of your life.”

“First thing in the morning, it’s important to eat quickly, so right away I’m reaching for eggs — between six and eight whole eggs,” Brian Shaw explains. “Two to three cups cooked rice, every morning I also have some orange juice. I’ll actually blend up some spinach with the orange juice and have a smoothie that way.”

That’s just one example of the way power builders and bodybuilders will inject every single meal they eat with intense amounts of protein and calories, and they’ll do it all day long. So how did Matt Morsia handle the challenge of eating 7 meals and 10,000 calories a day? Well, not spectacularly. He started off great at breakfast, though.

“We have a bowl of polenta and eight whole eggs,” Matt Morsia described of his breakfast during the challenge. “This [polenta] is so heavy, you can’t really ascertain the weight…it’s like ridiculously weighed down mashed potatoes.”

Less than an hour later, Matt Morsia was back, since he has to eat 7 meals a day to keep up with Brian Shaw’s intense diet. For his second breakfast, Matt Morsia chopped up two beef burgers and mixed them into a bowl of powdered mashed potato, which he claimed “tasted like sh*t.” He immediately follows it up with two small pizzas and two slices of cheesecake.

Clearly, it’s okay for some powerlifters to have a cheat meal in the middle of the day. Sometimes if your focus is just on getting in the most calories you don’t always pay the most attention to what individual foods you’re eating, which is okay as long as you’re generally giving yourself a lot of protein and not just pigging out on fast food all day long.

“First thing I do when I wake up in the morning is drink a liter of water, just to flush everything out, get the organs going,” Eddie Hall explains in his diet video. “Four eggs, five or six pieces of bacon, four or five sausages, I do toast, I do beans, I do tomatoes, and I’ll wash that down with a liter of cranberry juice.”

It’s not for everyone, but these diets sure are a great way to get a look into the mind of a powerlifter!
