    Lyle McDonald BodyOpus Pages

Lyle McDonald did a week by week (even blow by blow) report of a twenty week BodyOpus experience.
He originally posted them on misc.fitness.weights. They are here

He also summarized them in a FAQ

And he has written a technical paper about Cyclical Ketogenic Diets Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

    Lyle's bodyfat measurement instructions

A lot of research has occurred since 96, I have to wonder how the blood lipid section would change with an update.

Mcdonald updated this with his newer version called the "Ultimate Diet 2.0."

I should mention, solid post though. I'm not always trying to give you a hard time B, just wanted to add something extra to your threads.

Apparently Lyle mentions somewhere in an article about an extremely effective supplement/vitamin (I'm not sure which) to use whilst on Keto that accelerates your fat loss, but not through thermogenics. Which obviously means it effects you on a hormonal level (possible increase in T3 or T4 conversion?) Anybody have information on this? I can't seem to find info anywhere and I've searched high and low. As mentioned it is only useful whilst following a strict Ketogenic diet.

Not sure what you mean! But never take DNP on a ketogenic diet. Very, very bad!

    BodyOpus as a base

Yeah, Mcdonald attempted to take over where Dan Duchaine left off. BodyOpus is by Dan and I believe came out in 96. I would recommend it (as a book, not neccesarily as a diet) over McDonald's stuff. Even the UD2 is out of date enough to be kind of painful to read. (Dan wrote UD1 of course.) I think the drugs he was referring to were the 3rd generation oral insulin mimickers which will help with the Carb up and then getting back into Ketosis. 1st gen was Metformin. 2nd was Glipizide. I consider the new one's out now as 3rd gen. Like insulin, all of these I consider too dangerous to use. RLA, Omega 3's, Fenugreek or maybe P-Slin? Much better choices. DD RIP

    "cutting"?

    Ditto swankinrosco,

I have been a hardgainer, "ecto", call me what you like, for my whole life... But I am now 30, recovering from a hernia operation, and I am struggling to get into my size 34 pants. This is madness! I guess it has happened once or twice in the past, but I think it was more from muscle mass (I have highly developed glutes) than sloth.

Dbol+post-surgical rest: god's recipe for adiposity.

So I am looking to cut. I am also looking to cut in keeping with the best, most current science on the subject. I am also looking to become informed without someone attaching a humiliating to my post.

I would like to point out the following: There is a forum for "bulking" in the nutrition section, but no thread for "cutting" anywhere, which is somewhat puzzling to me, as I thought that all bodybuilders were either bulking, cutting, or on vacation. The "weight loss" forum is as close as it gets, but that is not precise enough for me, as I would be happy to stay at my present weight while losing fat and building muscle.

So does anyone else think that "cutting" is special enough to get a forum of its own? I would be happy to post a formal request to the forum request forum if there is any interest.

And in regards to swankinrosco's alacritous (and ignored) post, can anyone point me in the direction of the most current research on cutting? I bet anyone on here a bottle of Body Octane I know more than you about the relationship btw fat and the immune system, but this is my first foray into actual cutting. So, scientific approaches encouraged!:dl:

Lyle did a staggering amount of research into keto dieting, mostly after DD kicked. The Lowcarb-L w/ DD, Lyle, Elzi Volk & a bunch of others on it, would beat him & his research up pretty thoroughly, but he connected the dots well & put together one hell of a book. The Ketogenic Diet is exhaustive (or was at the time) - and exhausting. Most of what's in there is not in BodyOpus - nor was it anything but scattered data before Lyle pulled it together. Oh, and as for Lyle 'attempting to take over'? He started off chasing around for specific info Dan wanted, learned a lot from Dan, and after his death Lyle kept on - just not for Dan anymore.

I always credit him for concluding after it all that the keto state is just another metabolic tool, & that TKD/CKD just aren't "all that". IIRC that led fairly directly to The Ultimate Diet 2.0.

Great find, B - too bad, though: looks like he took down his early pics!

Sorry to leech on here B150, but I am new, and I a started the Ultimate Diet 2.0 yesterday, I will be posting before and after, not going to doa daily log (although I am keeping a hard copy) but I have some very important questions, I am going start a new post for this, and I would love the input from someone knowledgeable on Bodyopus, he references it alot, I bet there are things in there that could enhance UD 2, but for now I am just going to follow Lyle's guidelines, with an 8 day cycle, I do have some really important questions for anyone who has gotten cut like Distilled Water, nice legs, and I mean that in the most heterosexual way possible! Looking forward to everyone's input.

PDF version of the book is out on public domain. Google knows all, just use the filetype parameter.
