Yes, cardio is not a requirement to loose fat. Just stay in a calorie deficit and you will get leaner. You might have to go a bit lower on your calories but thats about it.

Can be done with calorie deficit and lifting relatively heavy

Yep you definitely can. It's all about diet when it comes to losing weight. I actually don't do a lot of cardio when i cut. I may get on a good fat burner and decrease overall caloric intake and I will shed weight.

Great responses above - diet is the biggest factor. Cardio can help create a deficit, but it is not a must. Getting to single digit body fat will be very challenging if you aren't doing any cardio, but you'll be able to lose fat and get lean if your training and nutrition are in check.

One thing I also want to point out is that cardio isn't just running. There are many other forms of cardio that you can add in if you have bad knees:
1. Rowing/rowing machine
2. Swimming
3. Low intensity walking (or simply walking outside for 30-45m)
4. Battle ropes/pushups/pullups (high intensity work that doesn't incorporate high impact on your knees)

Don't cross cardio off your list because of your knees. There are tons of ways to work around it and get your heart rate up/burn calories.

Of course.

You’re in a deficit. The purpose of cardio is to increase the deficit.. you can achieve the same with less calories in.

Lifting heavy is a great idea while cutting - it helps signal to your body to hang onto your muscle tissue.

Like everyone said, being in a deficit is all you need. If you don’t like running you could take long walks, go hiking, play a sport, swim, ride bike. There’s plenty of ways to do cardio besides just plain running. You can also make your weight training more cardio-oriented by circuit train, or by doing lots of supersets.

Haven't done cardio in almost two years and I keep abs.

It's about the dinner table and your training. Dinner table being first of course.

Try farmers walks for fat loss. Simple really, just grab two fairly heavy Dumbbells and walk for as long as your arms and hands can take it. Walk with your back straight and core tight. Try about three to four sets. I do them daily at the end of each workout, I don't do any cardio and my belly fat is definitely disappearing. Still have a bit to go but I'm getting results

Take some viagra and have intense sex for hours on end, do this often and you'll be sure to cut up the midsection. That's my typical cardio.
