Gut bacteria = dictates if you're fat or thin

  1. Gut bacteria = dictates if you're fat or thin

So I was watching ' the truth about... Obesity' on BBC and they found an interesting concept.

yes, dna plays a role, yes surgery can cut appetite, time of eating also back on the limelight, but one that got me was the identical twins - one is fat one is skinny. The difference being the bacteria in their gut.

This was a 5000 couple study, each time the thinnest had the most diverse bacteria (diet being high fibre ,different types) the other was fat with low fibre diet.

They didn't really elaborate on this ie. how strongly different the diets were or exampes of meal and Im wondering if supplentation can help, and what these microbes actually are so they can be targeted. Maybe someone on here is a gut bacteria specialist?

  2. My wife preaches the importance of a quality probiotic for gut health. The one she takes is great, but it says to take at night before bed.. I either forget, or have a drink and don't want to mix the two..
    SEMPER FI!!

  3. Ok so further digging, the top dog for visceral fat drop by 8.5% is Lactobacillus gasseri

others that prevent storage of fat and processing of proteins are:
    Lactobacillus rhamnosus
    Lactobacillus amylovorus
    or Lactobacillus fermentum
    Lactobacillus paracasei

AVOID: Lactobacillus acidophilus as it caused weight GAIN of 1.5kg

Ive found swanson do Lactobacillus gasseri on its own, HealthAid do one for womens parts that cover all these bases (so ignore the label) and Quest do one that drops a bomb on all of those requirements above (10 billion each)

Im sat here with a bloated belly so ive got it on sameday Prime delivery!

I'm skinny and have a low fibre diet 😂

Think how much fibre would help you along further and reduce stress on your GI? Smartypants.

Do you have a low sugar diet?
Because if so, that could be helpful as higher sugars promote your gut bacteria to feed on the stomach lining... and you're training it to help you get fat.

As we age this gets worse so being young helps as we have an abundance of good bacteria.
Artificial sweeteners also aid in fat gain but in a different way.
    Eating fermented foods helps.

Honestly, I'm fairly lean and always have been.
My diet use to be horrid, high sugar and fat and no fibre.

I'm better now days and well into my 30s. I have gut issues, I have the last few years even tho its ok atm.

  7. I agree. I have fought obesity since being a kid and was upto 400lbs at age 26. I am now 50 at 240 (20% bodyfat). Probiotic's have changed my life. Since about 2 months after implementing them, I no longer have to starve myself to stay or get lean. I can eat like you guys 3k calories a day or more and stay lean and have energy to lift and do life. They made me really sick (candida die off) for the first month, but I persevered.

I am using Metagenics utra flora synergy (pre-biotic plus pro-biotic). From my research, I believe this is the best probiotic you can buy, but it is a bit expensive. I am a bit of a special case with stomach issues. However, I would highly recommend Evomuse Gut Health. Its got lots of great reviews from folks on AM that I respect. Its been a hit since it came out. Whatever the case, I believe everyone should be using a probiotic.

  10. I have heard about the gut bacteria correlation with leanness, but never researched it. One thing i remember though is hearing about Lactobacillus Gasseri and Bifidobacterium Breve i think. About promoting weight and subqutaneus fat loss in humans and maybe providing a metabolism boost? Not sure, it's been a while.
Anyway, does anyone recommend this along with balanced diet and excersise? Like, would it help in cutting?

It would definitely help with cutting.

  12. Think so? I never really looked into the science of probiotics and their effects on weight loss. All i know about them ia from my high school biology and some kedical journals. I might start reading about it now

This is a very good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjWHYXnIAUA

  14. L-Glutamine is one of the best supplements for gut health. I remember using a scoop in every single large bottle of water I drank once, did this for a month when I had a cold I couldn't shake, was trying to boost my immune system. I lost so much weight that month and was only training 3x a week. I feel like the improved gut health from the high l-glutamine usage really played a part.

  15. I'm looking to these as a good example:
Thorne Research - FloraMend Prime Probiotic - Shelf Stable and Stomach Acid-Resistant Probiotic Blend, and another
Advanced Orthomolecular Research AOR, Advanced Series, Probiotic-3

If one is looking to use this for weight control / loss, my readings have lead me to avoid these:
    • Lactobacillus acidophilus – in both humans and animals
    • Lactobacillus fermentum*– in animals
    • Lactobacillus ingluviei – in animals
    • Lactobacillus reuteri – in humans, although it helps with some obesity-related symptoms [R]

Yes sir, that's why I stated to avoid that one among a few others listed.

  18. The link from your gut to your brain is significant. The state of your gut microbiome (also known as your second brain) can determine what genes are/arne't expressed - epigenetics. This means body composition, mental state, cancer risks, sleep, etc are all affected by your gut microbiome.

The second brain contains some 100 million neurons, more than in either the spinal cord or the peripheral nervous system, Gershon says. This multitude of neurons in the enteric nervous system enables us to "feel" the inner world of our gut and its contents.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick has a recent interview with Joe Rogan, where she discusses this in more detail. Great watch.

  20. lets not doscount genetics here. it does play a role however i presume you dont have a fat twin?

This study was for all builds of identical twins, the fattest had the least diverse bacteria in the gut, the skinny always had high diversity.

Two points - probiotic can put them there, and fibre which is the food for the bacteria (useless to us from a calorie point of view)

All of them have strains which been led to weight gain too except the Gasseri solo.

I've found some basic strains of those tied to weight loss specifically

I just purchased 2 bottles of this:
