Post-Surgical Diet

  1. Post-Surgical Diet

Ok, I am going in to have ankle surgery this month, and I will be completely inactive for 2 weeks or so. I am curious what kind of diet plan I could follow to minimize catabolism and fat gain while I am laid up.

    Thanks for the help!
Don't worry, man, someday I'ma be nobody too.

  2. I would stick with foods like oatmeal, brown rice, whole grain wheat bread, salmon, tuna, egg whites, whey protein, flax seed oil, chicken breasts and keep your calories at maintenance level. Go with about 6 moderate meals a day.

You a Husker fan, Swanson52? I grew up in Omaha. I'm wondering how the boys will do next football season.

  3. I would eat a little above maint, heavy on the protein. You'll gain some fat but better to do that than lose a lot of muscle in my mind. 2 weeks isn't that long luckily.

    You know I am!

It's either going to be an incredible success or a ****in disaster...I don't think there will be any middle ground. If they suck, Pedersen and Callahan better move under the cover of darkness!

Should I maybe make my diet heavy on protein shakes rather than whole foods, or no matter in that regard?

  6. Go with whole food, after surgery your body will need all the nutrients it can get. Up the protein a little more then you would normally run on a maintanence diet, as after the operation your body will need and use excessive amounts of amino acids to aid in the repair of tissue, this should also minimize muscle catabolism. Perhaps here is where the pr. shakes will come in handy.
