Fiber One is good but does contain small amounts of Maltodextrin (check the ingredient list) but how much actual significance that is is still unknown since they don't list the amount. I usually eat and recommend All Bran Extra Fiber but to much of any one of these can cause problems since they have very large amounts of fiber.

just started eating 1/2 cup in the morning - tastes pretty good and has fixed the issues that come with not enough fiber - only 3 grams of sugar so the maltodex shouldn't be an issue especially if your eating it in the am.

Maltodextrin would not be listed as a sugar.

Use metamucil, and get it with aspartame....use this 3-4 times/day and you'll be good to go...orange flavor tastes good...

Or you can by those wafers, forget what brand, but they taste alright and you can take them where ever you go and is convenient..

Why not? - what would they list it as ? if they don't list the amount of Maltodextrin would that mean it's a very small amount or do they think it doesn't count as anything?

Because they don't have to. Look at most MRP's. They will advertise as "sugar free" but when you look at the ingredients Maltodextrin is the first or second one. Maltodextrin is a glucose polymer and is actually considered a complex carbohydrate. It does not have to be listed as a sugar and many time its listed as "other carbohydrates" or not at all. Granted in this case I think you are right and it is a small amount but when you don't exactly how much is in there, it tends to raise my eyebrow a bit.

That's good info to know - I did wonder why a fiber cereal tasted so good and the maltodextrin seems to be the culprit of where the sweet taste comes from. Again you pointed out the obvious to me but I guess looking at the ingredients is just as important as looking at the nutrional facts - Thanks for the clarification

Maltodextrin is 100 on the GI scale just like dextrose, glucose, and other refined sugars. It basically is the same thing as sugar but some say it enters the blood stream slightly slower than dextrose and that is why some mix dextrose and maltodextrin in their postworkout shakes. Supplement companies piss me off b.c. they should just go ahead and put sugar in their products instead of maltodextrin but they don't so they can trick people by not having to list it as a sugar. It would make everything taste better as well as maltodextrin doesn't taste that good. It may have other advantages but I am unaware of them.

I put it in yogurt when I need a tv-watching snack, helps keep me from spending more than a few minutes ruling the world from my porcelan throne.

I like Fiber One. I do not eat it every day, but it is a "good" carb, IMO.

But its a complex carb that has a 130 on the GI index. So just be careful even though the amount will probably be very small.
