    Chocolate for Refeeds

from what i understand, fruits(fructose in general) is not that valuable durnig a refeed. From what i've read, it doesn't cause a rise in the leptin hormone.

How about eating Chocolate on a refeed day?

    1. Can chocolate contribute to a rise in leptin?
    2. Can chocolate increase muscular glycogen?

    cheers

I think it varies by brand, I am pretty sure there are some dark chocolate bars does not contain sucrose.

sucrose is a disaccharide = fructose + glucose

so technically if you have 10 grams of sucrose, you actually have 5 grams of fructose and another 5 of glucose. not the best for re-feeding. Keep in mind fruit is not always 100% fructose, often it is also part fructose and I believe part sucrose.. so both examples have a lot of carbs that can only replenish liver glycogen.

if chocolate is not made with sucrose, then I'm really confused because they almost always sweeten chocolate with sugar. unless they are really cheap, then they would use high fructose corn -syrup, which is even worse.

i mean what else could you sweeten chocolate with? dextrose? maltodextrin? never heard of it.

If I really have to break down and eat some chocolate on a refeed, I go with something low fat - 3 muskateers or peppermint pattie.

too much fat, unless you get the 95%(or whatever %) cocoa chocloate. Leptin will rise from carbs regardless the the type. Type of carb refers more to gylcogen recompensation for your muscles. More importantly its about keeping the fat as minimal as possible.

    alright.. thanks brothers of AM.
So chocolate is fructose + glucose... if it's low fat, it'll raise leptin (regardless of carb type)...
