    However, it's not just the calories of alcohol that are the problem. The fact that your liver stops doing everything else and processes the alcohol first and your body consumes the energy from it before moving on to other foods and energy is a key point to consider. Eating just before or after drinking alcohol is a sure way to pile up 100% of the calories you just ate into fat cells.

    My rule of thumb is to drink on an empty stomach, pace yourself, and do not eat an hour before or and hour after you drink alcohol.
