I intermittant fast, cycle carbs and calories in coherence with workout days, squat 3 times a week, and keep a mostly paleo diet. I've been a hard gainer my whole life as well (150 at 5' 10' two months ago) and in the last 8 weeks I've gained 8 pounds. Calories are calories no matter when or what kind you eat. I think the only exception to this is to plan the bull of your calories following workout. All the other talk is "bro" talk.

IF and weight gain - eh, not best of friends especially if its harder for you to pack on size. Paleo - if you so choose, I'm pretty close with buying mostly local farmed foods even then I'm pseudo because I like cottage cheese.
As I've tried new waves and styles of dietary habits from paleo/vegan/IF/keto... there's no need for extremes. Ever. Just recognize the benefits to each one and pull something together that's sensible. To each their own.

GOMAD! And eat for you hard gainers. Oh, and a calorie is not a calorie, total BS to whoever posted that. If I eat 3000 calories worth of Snickers daily would my physique still look good if I ate a balanced meal and hit all my macros!!!! Just sayin.
