Product Recall: Gazelle Crosstrainers
Fitness Quest Glider-Style Exercise Machine Poses Injury Hazard

June 8, 2006 -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling more than 150,000 glider-style exercise machines due to a potential fall hazard.
Together with the manufacturer, Fitness Quest Inc., the CPSC is recalling about 154,000 of the Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer and Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer Pro Gliders. Officials say resistance pistons on the glider can come off during use and cause a person to fall off the exercise machine.
Fitness Quest says it has received 145 reports of the resistance pistons detaching and one report of a minor injury from a fall as a result of this defect.
The Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer and Crosstrainer Pro are both glider-style exercise machines. The user moves two foot platforms in a striding motion back and forth while grasping handlebars attached to the platforms.
What to Do
Users should disconnect the pistons on these exercise machines. Consumers can continue to use the gliders until they receive a free repair kit as long as the pistons are detached.
The products were sold by the Home Shopping Network, The Shopping Channel, and ****'s Sporting Goods beginning in January 2004 for between $200 and $250. The model name "Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer" or "Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer Pro" is printed on the side of each product's frame.
Consumers who purchased a Crosstrainer from ****'s should contact Fitness Quest for a free repair kit.
Consumers who purchased a Crosstrainer or Crosstrainer Pro from the Home Shopping Network (HSN) or the Shopping Channel (tSC) before Jan. 1, 2006 are eligible to receive a free repair kit by mail. Contact Fitness Quest if you did not receive a kit by June 3, 2006. Crosstrainer gliders purchased from HSN or tSC after Jan. 1, 2006 have repair kits included.
