Bobo, some things discussed in chat...

I hope I didn't misinterpret you tha other night as so many conversations were going on. But I was wondering if you could shed some more light on performing 16 sets for major bodyparts, and 8 for minor... I think you said this was tha best set scheme for muscle hypertrophy?

I told you I doubted I could fit all that into one workout due to endurance issues, and you told me to split it up. Now I've heard of hitting a bodypart twice a week and I guess thats what I'd be accomplishing. My question is, why those variables? Does it have to be fit into 7 days or could it take longer -- hit a bodypart 3 times in 12 days? Why are those tha magic numbers? It would seem that if you could throw it all into one workout tha better... Obviously there is some kind of timeframe to do this and I'm trying to get a better understanding of tha whys and hows.

Bi's is the only thing I'm doing twice a week now, everything else moves along nicely (except maybe calves).

Ha... for some reason I don't believe it.

I've been having tha best gains of my life when using this protocol, however I'm spending crazy amounts of time in tha gym to do so.

I'd like to have somewhat of a life outside of tha gym, so to cut it down, I'd have to stretch it out.

Well to answer the question, there are no magic numbers. You could hit a bodytpart once per week or twice per week and most people will never know the difference. There are studies showing recovery that vary from 48 to 144 hours so a case can be made either way but it comes down to the amount of intensity you put into each set. Studies really can't measure intensity although there are several in which ECC times are increased therefore increasing intensity (you would think) thereby increasing recovery trimes. If you are using a protocol that is based more on TUT then recovery will generally take longer and the larger the muscle groups the larger the recvoery times IMO. If you are using a more PL'er type routine then recovery times usually are shorter.

The answer to your problem is increase your intensity by increasing TUT but keepiong it in a range that won't shift hypertrophy from myofibullar to sarcoplasmic. Generally you shouldn't hit a bodypart more than 3 times per week for optimal growth. Abs and calves are the excpetion but even then I have know people that hit them 3 times per week one week then none the next and have experienced more growth in those stubborn areas than ever before.

Ok, how does one go about doing that, or how would you suggest me to search for this on tha board? Keywords: Time Under Tension?

    Oh yeah, Thanks.
