Got a pec strain

  1. Got a pec strain

Felt something weird on the right side of my chest when warming up with 135 and 185, didnít feel anything with 315,365,405 or even 435. After hitting 455 differently felt something going on the right pec. Went for 475, felt like my right side was struggling way more and didnít hit it. My spotter said my right side was shaking. After that i definitely felt my right side was a little sore. Stopped the workout at that point.
Next morning I could only really fell a slight soreness when I flex my right pec. Think it was a strain or slight pulled muscle.

Any one have advice on whether I should just wait untill the feeling is completely gone before I workout chest again? I read that minor strains/pulled muscles take a few weeks to heal but honestly I feel this will go away within a week. I know Iíll go light on the next time I work it out but just want some general advice from anyone with a comparable experience.

  2. If itís a strain, take a few weeks off. If itís a tear go see the doctor. Someone smarter than me will probably chyme in with better advice. Good luck, but definitely give it more than a week. Youíre strong as He#L right now do I would worry about size/strength loss.

You know any a person could tell if it’s a strain or tear? I don’t think it’s a tear because I’m not in pain or have any uncomfort

  5. As already mentioned, a doctor. He'll make a small incision at the side of your pec and climb in to take a look.

I’m not going to a doctor for something I don’t even have any pain for. Pretty sure if it was torn I would be in pain and have loss in range of motion.

  7. okay then

  8. Anyone have experience with something similar?

A doctor, but if youíre like me, then you are in tune with your body, and you know when you need to see the doc. For me, Iíve had both - tear/strain. I knew it was time to see the doc when I had a tear. It was a mild tear with discoloration. I was back to lifting light weights in about 3 months. After a month I started easy stretches and isometrics.

    Is there any discoloration?

No discoloration, not even any swelling occured. I can move my arm in full range of motion without any discomfort. Only time I feeling anything is if I flex the pec, and even then it isn’t pain

    So what you think?

  12. Put yourself on the 15 day disabled list. Then go super easy for another couple of weeks.

  15. I wouldn't do anything heavy for chest for a week, if not two. I also would get a lacrosse ball and lightly massage the area with it. A sprain is still a tear, but it is not complete tear. If you completely tore the muscle, you'd know it. The area would have bruised right away. Even when it starts feeling better, I wouldn't jump right back into heavy benching either.

Yea that’s exactly what i thought. There was no bruising, bleeding under the skin, or even swelling to indicate a bad tear. I hit arms yesterday did skull crushers, when I started to go heavier with 135 and 165 I could feel my right pec getting somewhat aggitated so I’m definitely going to lay off for a couple weeks. Just focus on legs, arms and back.

I did legs every other day. An hour of cardio. Nothing that requires a pull down or overhead movement. Lots of kegs though.

  18. Happened again... was going for Max reps with 405, on the 7th one felt something happen. Was throwing the weight around, fast, without much control. Learned the hard way. Exactly the same thing. Just a strain. Once I get back to working my chest going to try to catch incline up to my flat, then start flat again. No more throwing around heavy weight, slow and controlled....
