Low Bar Squats

I did low bar squats for the first time yesterday and they felt great on my knees. Is there a reason behind the mechanics of this squat variation that would make the lift easier on my knees than high bar squats?

I've had minor operations on both knees and they ache often especially during and after leg days. I'm considering working low bar into my leg routines over the next few weeks and see if my knees continue to enjoy this variation better.

What do you think; is low bar is more knee friendly than high bar, why or why not?

Thanks!

It's probably individual as we all have different sized legs, etc. (see first video below).

But sure, it's very possible that one squat will make your knees respond differently than another. If the bar path stays above your heel those inches are going to change how much you sit back, how far forward and/or out your knees travel, and such. I prefer low bar so much I rarely ever high bar, but for me it was an issue in how I lean on my ascension. Probably could've caused knee discomfort over time If I kept at it.

If Lb is easier on your knees make the change. It should eventually increase your squat too.

RegisterJr thanks for your response and sharing those videos. Definitely helpful understanding how my tibia, femur and torso proportions will impact my squat form.
