assistance work during a peaking cycle

I understand that lowering volume is critical in a peaking cycle, especially in the main movements, and for any muscles that are heavily involved in the lift. when you're cutting the volume however, is it actually necessary to cut out almost trivial muscle groups such as biceps? or even though traps are used in deadlifts, would it hurt to do trap specific exercises like shrugs? or would the volume inhibit your ability to recover, even though the muscles aren't necessarily prime movers in the lifts.
