Why do people sit during some shoulder exercises (Ike presses)? Is it to take pressure of the back? Prevent other muscles from assisting?

I've always wondered. I've always stood, but if there's a good reason to sit then I might start!

Yep, to help their back. And its also harder to cheat sitting down.

Yeah, to prevent driving through your feet and using momentum. Using a bench with a back support prevents spine compression (& personally, I always do my db presses on the slightest incline)

Thanks guys!

I tried sitting today and can feel the difference! I may sit from now on!

I do standing barbell presses sometimes to build strength. But for bodybuilding purposes, seated db presses are superior.
