Pain while deadlifting.

So for the past several months I have been experiencing a minor pain in my side only when I perform Deadlifts. It's right about where the right lat meets the rib cage. That's the best I can describe the location. It has always been minor enough that I can muscle through my routine, and it never gives me any trouble outside of the gym or at any other time other than Deadlifting. But last week, I attempted my heaviest Deadlifts ever, and felt it pretty bad during the session. But I blocked it out and got my good heavy lifts done. The next day I felt as if I had a broken rib. If I coughed or sneezed it hurt. That lasted for about a day then gone. This morning I went in to do a lighter Deadlift session but could not hardly perform a warm up set of 135lbs!! Tried one more set and had to stop. Has anyone ever experienced pain in this location while performing Deads or any insight as to what it might be? Thanks for any feedback.

That's actually a little low. I wouldn't say it's anywhere as low as the pelvis or connected to it. Definitely higher and more to the side.
I see the bottom of the rib cage in that diagram, I would say this pain is middle to top in relation to the ribs.

I'll do a little research on those. Thanks. Maybe take a week off from deads.
If it's an intercostal, it's going to be troublesome for awhile. It's essentially the muscle between the ribs themselves.

I got a pain in the same spot last week, the day after deads. Nothing to bad like you. I got my kids to rub me with pennsaid and it works within about ten minutes. It lasted for more than a week and now i'm fine.

Well I did a little searching on intercostal injuries and seem pretty common with deadlifting. Just weird that I don't feel it doing anything else. Not pull ups, rows, Abs, nothing. As much as it pains me, I will probably take a couple weeks off from deads.
