Hey everyone I have a question in regards to building up your cardio endurance through running. I'm in the process of taking several police test where part of the physical test is to run a mile and a half in 11:58. I'm also preparing for if and when I do get hired and am required to run long distance (5 to 7 miles) runs while at the academy.
I have been running every single day after my workouts anywhere from a mile to three miles a night and then on days off from weights, I have cardio days where I'm including sprints, box jumps, and some HIIT.
My question is, can you over train your cardiovascular system in the same way as you would your muscles? Would it be best to have complete off days from running as well?
What sparks this question is one, I have this mentality that I'm in a race against the clock to get my cardio up to par for these test and I'm afraid if I don't run everyday I won't be ready. Two, I recently started a run with SNS X-Gels and although they are working wonders for pumps and strength I am not able to run after my workouts because the calf pumps are to unbearable so I was considering having designated days where I would just run longer runs to make up for the days that I don't run.
