    How to use strength sets/reps

How should these be done??for example should I do them for an exercise or two in my workout while doing hyper trophy sets for the other couple exercises or should I be devoting more time such as a whole workout or even a week or two worth of strength reps??

Id combine both elements into your workout. Look into the 5/3/1 routine. You do your first heavy/strength set at the start of the workout, then worry about hypertrophy. I like to use 5x10 for assistance.

When you say 5/3/1 are you referring to reps or sets?? And what do you mean 5x10 for assistance?

Usually and almost exclusively, strength in a 1RM measurement, is built by using multiple sets (ie: maybe anywhere from 3-10) and with low reps, (ie: 5,s/3's/2's/1's.)
To add to the hypertrophy and or mass gains, higher reps are used (ie: 5's and up) for some multi sets.
Wendler's 5/3/1 is a pretty good example and say old Doug Hepburn stuff was kinda set up like that, where you work down to a heavy single and then finish off with some higher reps for mass/pump sets.
