I'm experiencing tingling in my thumb, index finger, and forearm after stretching my arm and shoulder plus the rest of my body on a foam roller.

I had my arms outstretched over my head while laying on my back and was letting them feel the stretch. I felt my arm start tingling and thought nothing of it except that my arm had fallen asleep from the position.

After a few minutes with no improvement I knew something was wrong. It still tingled and my arm feels heavy like it just wants to drop when I use it.

It is now the next morning after sleeping and it's still the same.

I'm about to go to work but wanted see if anyone has some thoughts on my situation. Oh and it's the same arm I had a slap repair on 7mo ago...

My assumption is that my median nerve was bothered during all of the stretching. Maybe it is still bothered since the symptoms have not gone away.

I'm now at work and am scheduled to work all day today and tomorrow. I can leave if I want to go to the doc or something, but I'm not sure that anyone I could see on the weekend would be able to help me. If I go to an urgent care facility they will probably just take my $50 and tell me to see a specialist next week. If I went to the ER would they do everything possible and skip going through a doctor or would they just tell me the same thing and charge me $100 or more depending on their services? What would you guys do?

List of symptoms

1. Thumb is experiencing intense tingling/asleep feeling that is amplified when touched/used. It feels just like your foot feels when it's asleep as I'm sure we've all had that happen.
2. Index finger feels a little tingly etc, but nowhere near what my thumb feels like.
3. Tingling and asleep feeling through my forearm on the bottom side (palm side).
4. My entire arm feels heavy and hard to move.
5. Shoulder feels pretty much the same as before any of this happened. A little sore, some popping, etc, but that is normal for me since surgery. Other than that I don't feel any intense pain or anything else that would make me feel like my shoulder is messed up.

this sounds like it has nothing to do w the foam roller, it was just aggravated by it. possibly a cervical disk or somehow your brachial plexus was stretched and your radial/ulnar/median nerves didn't like it.

go see a doc...

What bs. They didn't do **** but give me a splint to wear and said call us if it isn't gone in a few days. I knew it would be a waste of money. $150 down the drain...

tbh, an er isn't really the place to go w an injury like this. go to a sports med doc or an orthopod.

good luck...

Well it wasn't really my first choice, but there isn't a lot of options on the weekend which is why I was debating just waiting. I should have f'ing waited... It really pisses me off that I didn't just wait and save my damn money. It makes me more aggravated than the whole numb fingers thing.

I had similar issues. Tried every different type of Theropy and nothing worked. After about 8 months went and saw a neurologist and got a MRI . Bulged disk between vertebrae 5-6. Not much can be done but anti inflammation meds which helped.

Ya I've actually been diagnosed with cubital tunnel problems in the left arm which have since subsided to a small level of annoyance here and there. My right arm which is the one I'm having problems with now was tested and showed carpal tunnel symptoms which were just a minor annoyance as well and not on any level I needed to worry about at the time. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neuropothy which seemed to help. I wonder if I should call the ER doc back and tell him to prescribe some of that for me lol. It's weird b/c it is a drug for seizures, but it is also used for diabetic neuropothy problems a lot. The only reason I didn't take any script for pain or anything is I try to avoid that kind of crap for the most part. Hell I take enough supps as it is!!

When I was stretching it last night my bicep felt like it was being stretched a lot which it has been feeling tight so that actually felt good. There was a point at the top of the stretch when my arm was straight back over my head that my shoulder would feel like it was getting caught and I would slowly roll through that tension until it was past the area. It almost felt like it was catching and jerking, but it was slow and controlled and it felt like I was doing a good thing. Maybe that was what set it off. Who knows.

If it doesn't go away in the next few days I will either schedule an appt with my ortho doctor who did my shoulder surgery or with the neurologist that handled my previous nerve issues.

Geez I'm just sitting here mad about wasting my damn money lol. I work hella overtime and then throw it away walking in that damn place. Oh well... I need to get over it I guess...

Do you have muscle weakness in the bicep or pec? Definitely sounds like a nerve issue that was aggravated by whatever stretching you were doing. Napalm hit it on the head above IMO. I had a brachial plexus injury a couple years back and lost about 80% strength/function in the muscles being innervated by those nerves. Took roughly 6 months to fully recover. Of course thats on the severe side, but the key is finding out what caused it, and whether it requires treatment or just time to heal.

I've actually had some tenderness in the pec and have had pain shooting into my upper bicep where it connects to the shoulder. Also I decided to flex my right bicep the other day and couldn't even really feel the contraction. I can flex my left bicep (dominant arm) and feel the contraction very intense. My bicep does seem to flex though when I'm looking at it in the mirror it looks normal. The area makes it extremely hard for me to pinpoint a specific problem and my mind is jumping all over the place thinking it could be a million things. I have an appt with my ortho who did my surgery to check me out and get to the bottom of this. I had originally scheduled it for Friday hoping it would clear up by then, but I couldn't take the anxiety issues it's causing me and got it moved up. I'll update the thread when I know more.

Yeah I remember the first day after my injury my bicep was so weak I couldn't even lift a cup to my mouth to drink. Good luck, hopefully it won't require any invasive treatment.

Just got back and the doc thinks it's just really inflamed and swollen in the area and that is causing some nerve aggravation etc. I was given Prednisone for 5 days and he wants to see me in 2wks. He even said I can still work out, but just take it easy (that's the hard part).
