I've begun using Layne Norton's PHAT routine for the first time 2 weeks ago. So far I like it and it has treated me well, it's too soon to tell though. I'm torn between just wanting to work on strength, and your typical "bodybuilding" routines, so that's why I thought PHAT would be a good idea. My goal is to break 500lbs for reps on deads and squat, but to maintain some size and a good physique..
The thing I dislike about PHAT though, is working in deadlifts into the routine. On simplyshredded.com, his article says to replace squats on your lower power days with deadlifts, and alternate them every few weeks. Thats fine.. but I want to do both heavy deads and heavy squats in one week..not 2 weeks apart. That's how I have been training the last 2 months and that's given me the best results.
What I did last week, was squat heavy on lower power day w/ rmdl that day..and heavy deads on friday for "hypertrophy leg" day, and whatever the rest of the template says (tailored to my desire, and excluding the "speed squats").
Back is on thursday..
Question is..Will working back on thursday begin to hinder my deadlifts on friday?
Thanks for any responses, suggestions, ideas, advice, constructive criticisms in advance.
