Rep range while "cutting"

Do any of who still train with low reps in the cutting season (6-8 reps)
The past two years I've found that sometimes bringing my reps to 12 or more made me lose some size.
Then again, it may be that I wasn't getting enough calories.
Anyways, my question is :
If I keep my diet very clean, and take in the ample amount of calories and do my cardio everyday, will training with low reps for the majority of my excercises take anything away from me looking more defined.
Or should I just limit myself to one heavy excercise per bodypart and throw in a bunch of isolation excercises and keep the reps up. ( while still getting enougfh calories and cardio.)

You call 6-8 reps low? ;)
One of my all time favorite cutting routines was a 3reps for 3sets type (after warmup of course) with very small rest periods (60-90 seconds) between sets. Then hit some HIIT cardio, and out! (usually in about an hour).

I trained 5 days a week since I still had enough time/energy to do cardio right after lifting.
Shoulders, Arms, break, Chest, Back, Legs, break. Repeat.
