    bb shrugs and db shrugs

Is it really necessary to do both? I'm about to just start doing them with a trap bar. I hate doing bb shrugs, because how can I put this delicately? I like wearing sweat short when I workout and the bar rubs against my **** on the way up.

I believe the foundation of your trap development comes from heavy deadlifts, rows, and maybe power cleans (if you do them). I see shrugs as more of a "finisher" for the traps so I don't think it matters that much what type of shrug you do.

No I don't do cleans. I do, do rows and deadlifts though.

That's fine. Most people who work long enough to get a strong DL and strong at rowing exercises will end up with decent traps even without shrugs (notice I said "most", so there are obviously exceptions). Just pick a shrug variation that you like and hit it hard.

I have decent traps and have only done DLs and rows, never done cleans(I need to start though).

Like someone said, alternating always works. You don't get bored. I did DBs for the longest time, then BBs, now I switch it up randomly.

Yeah I wouldn't even ask this question, but since the bar is so close, when I bb shrug it rubs up against a certain area.

my traps are decent no bread loaves but I use them a ton in DL / Pendalay Rows. Been lifting 5 year so or so and shrugged for maybe 3months.

Try doing BB shrugs behind your back. Hits the traps from a different angle and avoids the rubbing on your **** and balls.

    This or just do DBs.

Rows don't hit my traps and lower back issues keep me from DL. Sometimes you just gotta shrug.

Same reason I do not like BB shrugs.

As suggested behind the back, is a nice change up. I found since really going heavy on DL, as stimulated trap growth, plus heavy DB shrugs.

I do db shrugs on shoulder days, and DL on their own day. After db shrugs I usually follow up with shrugs on a cable pulley. Really finishes them off, plus stepping back a little alters the angle hitting the trap a little differently. I also alternate my grip between narrow and wide. I use either a ez-bar or lat bar attachment.

Since it's rubbing against your ****, why not just do your shrugs with it? Since it's getting involved you might as well incorporate it into your workouts.

I shrug at the top of a deadlift rep, and jostle my junk doing so. Just deal with it, unless it gives you a boner and everyone notices LOL

I did shrugs with the trap bar yesterday and loved it. I prefer doing them with the trap bar now more than the barbell or dumbbells. So, I'm just goign to do them with the trap bar from now on.

I was in shame because I thought I was the only one who experienced this problem. So this is what it feels like when doves cry.

Also, to remedy it when I do BB shrugs is I bend my legs a little bit and slide the barbell up. Gravity takes the.... Shvantz out of the way.
