Can someone explain the benefits of wearing a snorkel while lifting?

I guess theres a few MMA fighters that do it. Looks redic lol
From what I've seen since you're getting less oxygen it trains your body to use what oxygen you are getting more efficiently so that when you're breathing without the snorkel its all the efficient. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
