I thought that this topic might get a few very valuable responses for newcomers or even veterans for that matter. Please give a brief description of an injury you might have sustained, treatment for that injury, or ways you could have prevented it or have dealt with it since. It could prove invaluable for many.

I used to have a nagging sore left hamstring. When I walked up hills it would twinge, when I ran it would cramp, it was a major pain in the....well....hamstring. The one thing that helped it the most........ intense, regular stretching!!!! Go figure.

Come on AM'ers........The information you provide could really save someone a lot of time and grief.
Have a great/safe day!

Also, if anyone has any questions or ailments and need some advice, maybe someone can read it and tell you what has worked for them.

Man, that sucks. Good luck with your surgery. Post how you're doing so that I might have an idea of things to come for myself (or anyone else for that matter) . I've always had problems with my knees due to playing baseball for years. Good luck.

well, today in the gym, I got the idea, hey, lets see how much i can dead lift. (today was shoulders/traps, see where this is going) stuck 225 on the bar, no warm up, bent down, lifted, got it about 6 inches up, and felt the muscle in my back knot up like snake in a fire. but silly me, i kept going, then dropped the weight.

walked around a bit, streched my back, but could tell it was knotted up bad.
oh well, continued my barbell shrugs, and finished my workout.

needless to say, im in bed now, typing this, unable to walk around longer than 10min.

moral of this story, always to a dynamic warm up before lifting anything heavy, esp when your back is involved.

and dont do exercises that aren't part of the routine for that day.

oh yea, and if you feel a sudden pain when doing something, dont push through it, stop and go home and relax, dont make it worse. :D

I hear you man.

I had to stop training upper body for a year , last year.

Injuries also raise ast and alt(liver functions ) on a test so do not be surprised if liver values are high a couple months after a a serious injury or even a minor one can cause this.

Over a year ago I was doing weighted dips(I loved these), went too low, and heard a *pop* in my sternum. I didn't want to see a doctor about it (STUPID!) so I just stayed away from dips- I could do every other workout except for dips. Well about a year later the pain returned when I started doing dips again, got myself checked out and learned I have an inflamed sternum. had to go to physical therapy and get on anti-inflammatory/muscle relaxants.

To avoid getting an inflamed sternum when your doing dips- don't go too low!!! I think going any lower than when your arms are level puts unnecessary strain on your sternum as well as your shoulders.

Also don't be an idiot like me and don't be afraid of going to the doctors when something HURTS, like, beyond soreness, the kinda pain where you know something aint right.

to this day i dont do dips- im going to be damn sure its healed before I hop on parallel bars again!

Im 24 and i finally got diagnosed in April last year with a osteochondritis, I had a cracked femur so that put an end to training for a while I lost about 9 to 10 kg about 20lbs in total, I couldnt walk for 6 weeks and then had to learn how to walk again, Its not like I weighed alot only 77kg 170pounds but i am only 170cm tall, best thing I learn't was go see a specialist luckily I did or it could have been two years later needing a knee replacement. Only started getting back into training last november but its been slow progress lost so much muscle and cant train legs to much.

yes but not for legs its hard to push yourself and see as much gains as you do when you can do legs, i can still do light weights I have started deadlifting again but only light because this doesnt use much off the knees
