    Unhappy ... I think I got a tear/hernia

    I am not happy.

I was on the leg press with my workout buddy a few days ago, and during the last set I felt a strange pain on the right side of my groin/lower abdominal area - it felt very strange and made me very uncomfortable and it kid of hurt if I put too much pressure on my right leg.

The pain and strange sensation started going away...

Today we did back and I was super cautious, we started with close grip rows. This was at lunch time. Later in the day I started getting a similar sensation, but this time it was coming from my right testicle and going out and up to my lower abdominal area and all the way down my right leg.

I just looked in the mirror and noticed a mass on the bottom of my testicle - it feels horrible and hurts a little. I don't know what it is but I'm a little freaked out now.

I have a Dr appt in two days for something else - I'll show him and get a good reference so I can get this fixed.

    This really sucks!

I'm recovering from a torn oblique - pretty much same feelings you're describing except for the testicular discomfort. The Dr. is definitely the best course of action; he'll be able to tell you what is going on. In the meantime, avoid pressure on the hip. I had to give up Oly Lifts for over two months. It sucks, but if you have a hernia, the surgery has a very quick recovery time.

I sure hope so - thanks for the encouragement.

I really don't like the weird sensation, especially the feeling of pressure applied to my ball

Try wearing a jock or something equally supportive. Helps an injured crotch enormously in my experience.

I thought I had a hernia for a while, but two drs said otherwise. While I couldn't squat or dead or do anything involving my hip, I focused on high volume training for my upper body and isolation for lower and actually had a fairly successful recomp. So, find a way to work around the injury if you can and there's no reason you can't still make progress.

I thought I had a hernia about 10 months ago. I did an ultrasound and it showed a possible Hernia. Iwas sent to Shuldice. (Sp). Were Stallone apparently had his hernia repaired and they said they saw no evidence of a hernia. The weird sensations came back again about 1 week ago but a little more noticeable this time. it's a kinda stabbing like pain on the left side of my groin but no bulge oir protusion. At times I can feel food etc pass through the intestines in that area under what seems like pressure. My question is, can I still have a hernia even though there is no signs of a bulge or protusion? If it's not a hernia what is it then?

I had a hernia this time last year only it was a cervical hernia. I did 20 session of decompression which cured it. I got it from doing a set of behind the head mil press for 10 reps. I only stopped at the top of the head.

Then when I started back I started getting it again from behind the back bb shrugs so I took time off. Next thing I knew I was off for 2 months, got back to weightlifting and I haven't felt any pain since. Every now and then I get a little kink in my neck and I have to move it a little big but no pain.

What is a cervical hernia and what are decompression sessions. How do I know if it's a cervical hernia?

I think he is talking about a herniated disk in his neck.

You could have a hernia or a sports hernia that is often mis diagnosed. Theres only a few docs in the nation that do the surgery to.

    ok wait a minute.
you're talking about a routine inguinal hernia right?
and exactly what amazing surgery can only a few surgeons nationwide do to fix this?
...because the surgeons I've seen learn to fix these in their first year of training. and that includes with mesh.

No a sports hernia is the tearing of the abdominal wall from the pubic bone. I had a sports hernia and finding a doctor to do the surgery is a night mare. I found 4 doctors in the U.S. that do the surgery. They either do it with a lathra scope Like I had or they cut you wide open. I was lucky because the last doc before the specialist I saw had just attended a conference on sports hernias he only knew of 3 doctors that did the surgery and we found the 4th on the net. It is commonly mis diagnosed as tendinitis. It's different than an inguinal hernia.

well i've never heard of that.
one website purporting to be a "sports hernia" expert simply explained routine inguinal hernia repair
    http://www.sportshernia.com/sports-h...-operation.php

here's a study that says the condition does not exist
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8896091?ordinalpos=1&itool=Ent rezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubm ed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_SingleI temSupl.Pubmed_Discovery_RA&li nkpos=2&log$=relatedreviews&lo gdbfrom=pubmed

this one describes treatment of the condition is the same as inguinal hernias, with mesh
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12831721?ordinalpos=1&itool=En trezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pub med_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_Single ItemSupl.Pubmed_Discovery_RA&l inkpos=5&log$=relatedreviews&l ogdbfrom=pubmed

this one notes that this entity is simply an early or non-palpable inguinal hernia, and simple hernia surgery is nearly 100% curative.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14737043?ordinalpos=1&itool=En trezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pub med_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_Single ItemSupl.Pubmed_Discovery_RA&l inkpos=5&log$=relatedarticles& logdbfrom=pubmed

so yeah....i like to investigate things. i dont believe sports hernia is a seperate entity but a step along the path of inguinal hernia formation. OP just needs a good general surgeon, a good physical exam, maybe an ultrasound, and an accurate diagnosis.

Here is the Medical name for the injury Athletic pubalgia. Good thing I had to call the doc about rehab today. It is a broad term covering a lot of things heres exactly what I did.I had a tear of the abdominal internal oblique muscle from the pubic tubercle. Also the doctor that did my surgery was Ricard Cattey.

hmm, i too have a hernia, went to the shouldice center also, and after they poked and prodded and some chinese doctor drove his thumb into my gut with aprox 300psi, they to said they couldn't find it, told me to go home and loose 20lbs, and come back, gave me the soup diet plane !!! what a place that is, wait here, then got wait there, then you get to wait in another hall, then go get weighed, and see the surgeon, then wait/wait wait///

and everyone outside was like walking zombies, very sureal...

on a good note, I've lost 7lbs on my own, and so far my intestines have managed to stay put!

I definitely have a hernia... No bulges though. Is it ok to lift or do cardio with a hernia. Been off for 1 month...getting flabby and losing everything from my SPAWN pulse.

I had an inguinal hernia when I was 16. Didn't hurt at all, but was really weird. I got the mesh patch surgery, and I think it was pretty painful, but vicodin helped. It took about a week to heal a bit, but I still walked funny for a while. A jock strap does wonders.
