too much protein?

  1. too much protein?

with all the increases in protein meal replacements on the market and the constant increase in the amount of protein in each, can one reach a limit of how much protein the body will consume at an individual meal. I know that in the course of a day it is recommended that you consume between 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound bw. Can you overfill the body with protein at one seating resulting in just wasting the protein?

  2. I hope i dont get flamed as i am not sure of this - but i dont think you can really utilize more than 50G of protein in one meal. I think enzymes might help with digesting them too.

  3. i tend to agree with you, which makes eas's new myoplex deluxe with 53 gms of protein nothing more than a scam.

  4. 50G protein is a general rule of thumb - everyone is different, especially as you get higher up on the scale. if you weighed 280 pounds and consumed 1.5 grams of protein per pound and were eating 6 meals a day you would need to consume 70G of protein per meal..... I dont think its a scam....

  5. Everyone's different so who knows, it's the million dollar question. If this helps I would rather eat enough then not enough. Later J

  6. I knew I should have stayed awake in Chemistry class!!

  7. You can do more frequent servings of 20-30 grams of protein if you're concerned about getting too much at once. I personally do 45 grams 7 times a day and it works fine for me

  8. I believe there is no limit. Here is an interesting read from john berardi. It talks about this same very issue.

Bump this. And I'd think the slower digesting the protein, the more you could take at one sitting.

Anyone know anything about the amount of whey vs. the amount of a complete protein that can be used in one sitting?

  10. I think that protein digetability/utilization will change throughout the day. At certain times, like at meal 1 and post workout, and even post post workout, we can probably utilize more ingested protein than at other times of the day. It is also somewhat dependent on your bodyweight, your training schedule, the rest of your diet, and what supplements you take. I have been taking in 60 g + per meal for years.
