    Pain Killers

    Hey guys,
I hurt my back the other day so my doctor gave me some oxycodone to dull the pain. while i was at his office i forgot to ask him whether or not it would be ok to take it while i was using sport supplements. does anyone know if it is ok to take oxycodone while on drive, RPM, and Neovar?

    Thanks

to the OP i wouldnt try it. I mean oxycodone is a very strong pain killer. I doubt you doctor would say its ok to take it with sports sups.

my understanding is that oxycontin works on the same paths as NSAIDs and could limit protein synthesis.

i don't know that it'd be "unhealthy" per se.

    our good friend wikipedia says:
    Side effects

The most commonly reported effects include constipation, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, headache, dry mouth, pruritus, and diaphoresis. Some patients have also experienced loss of appetite, nervousness, euphoria, anxiety, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspnea, and hiccups,[6] although these symptoms appear in less than 5% of patients taking oxycodone. Rarely, the drug can cause impotence, enlarged prostate gland, and decreased testosterone secretion.[5]

Honestly, It will probably be OK. Oxycodone like all opiates work on various opiate receptors in the brain and thereby reduce your pain.... Things to avoid while on Oxy:
    1. Muscle relaxers like Soma and Flexiril. This can lead to
respiratory depress which can lead to DEATH
    2. Fatty meals can also increase the absorption of oxycodone
    significantly.
Your typical supplement will not cause any serious potentiation of oxycodone.

Common drugs that should not be mixed with Oxy:
    Cimetidine
    Prozac
    Lasix
    HCTZ

    Hope this helps

and dont take promethazine...or any other Cytochrome P450 II-D-6 booster...and ull be safe...i THINK it will be ok but i wouldnt do it for very long maybe 2-3 days at most...if the pain is really that bad....any type of opioid shouldnt limit protein synthesis...but im a little rusty in that department (i know theres a reason why i only take opioid's for pain just cant remember)

Thanks Jared. I am a lil unclear as to how Oxy would slow protein synthesis, possibly of the opioid receptor (its a protein) but other places i am not sure... can someone tell me this. It can cause myalgia (muscle pain) and rhabdomyolysis which is the breakdown of muscle fiber that can release myoglobin into the blood which can cause kidney and liver damage. So I guess it can diminish muscle cells but not stop protein synthesis, which would ultimately result in the same thing though....... I think?

to answer your question, you will be fine taking oxy's with those supplements. the only thing you should be worried about while taking oxy's is your liver, and neither of those 2 supps should be hard on it from what i can see

Grab some N-A-C if you plan on taking a painkiller (esp those with acetaminophen) for extended periods. N-A-C is a great all around supplement anyhow, but in clinical trials it has shown to help with acetaminophen induced hepatoxicity.

I wouldn't worry about the toxicity on your liver. Back in the day I went on a 2 month bender of vicodin, oxycontin and soma. Won't go into details but the milligrams were in the thousands everyday. Liver was and is still doing good.

We have more housewifes on opiates than heroin addicts. There are many professional athletes that are addicted to pain killers also.

I agree, believe it takes only a week to get hooked if you take a opiate every day ... bodybuilders live an extreme lifestyle, and when they party they like to go all out (some not all) ... think of it ... You dont dead 500lbs and then go home and read a book at night ... neither do elite athletes

Does anyone have any advice on what to say to a doc/what kind of doc to see to get a decent prescription. I have pretty severe pain in my back, both a low back nerve/spine issue and a mid back lat tear.... stops me from sleeping/working now and then, but all my guy is writing me is naproxen which is great for my failing knees but useless otherwise

Tell your doc you are going to go somewhere else to get a better scipt... Guarantee he will write you pretty much anything you want, to get that copay. Greed... its a powerful force.

basically, DONT drink on this stuff, DONT take it on a empty stomach, and DONT be on it for more than 2-3 weeks at a time. If your in pain, something is wrong..... if it doesn't "feel better" after 2-3 weeks you need to go see a specialist and get the problem figured out that way. Naproxen is a anti-inflammatory that is just honestly not good for you at all. It is a very serious medication and should really only be taken if you really need it for a short period of time

He's using the working up system. Odds are he said to come back to him if the pain is still bad? Your doctor doesn't want to jump on in and prescribe to you something like roxanol when a lower risk of side effects NSAID will be suffice. It's like troubleshooting, they will try the lowest thing, then work up on the seriousness.

One thing a great doctor told me was that if I did have pain, don't be afraid to tell a(/your) doctor about it. He was the one who did my hip surgery after finding the problem of SCFE on an X-Ray my ex-doctor didn't... 6 months before .

If you want to experience the effects of the hydrocodone in vicodin without having to deal with the liver damage associated with all of that acetaminophen you can put them through cold-water extraction and seperate them. You can do it in about 5 minutes, all you need is water, some cups and a coffee filter. You can look it up, or anyone can PM for details. It's a good way to get the hydrocodone while saving your liver. It works with all other opiates too. (codeine, oxycodone, etc.)

Gulp! My doctor just prescribed me Vicodin and Flexeril for severe back spasms and pain resulting from herniated discs. He's the second doctor who has prescribed this combination for me in the past several years.

Don't get nervous Bro...I take Percocet 10/325 and Soma all the time. Its not going to kill you unless you pop them like Skittles. I have 4 titanium plates in my neck and a very very large thoracic disc herniation. The meds allow me to have a close to normal life. I would never be able to workout without them. Oh yeah I had an MRI on my shoulder a couple of weeks ago and I have 3 tendon tears. Talk about hurt like a ***** when lifting heavy. Screw it, I'm tired of surgeries.

Many thanks for sharing that! The Vicodin wasnít quite strong enough for my pain, so the doctor gave me a script for Percocet to take along with the Flexeril. Tomorrow morning I have my second lumbar MRI to see if the discs have undergone any further damage.

Out of curiosity, and in keeping with the main subject of the thread, are you taking any performance enhancement stuff while consistently using the Percocet? If so, have doctors ever checked your liver enzymes to see how youíre responding to perpetual use of the drug? Iím in the midst of PCT myself right now, and there are certain things that I donít dare stop taking while popping the Percocet. Though we all respond differently to such things, it would be encouraging to hear that a fellow iron combatant has combined the two with minimal risk.

I hear you on the surgery front. Iíve got a torn labrum in my right shoulder and three herniated discs in my lower back, and Iíve been avoiding the knife for years. But, dude, titanium plates and three tendon tears make me look healthy! I wish you the best of luck in the healing process!

I'm on prescribed HRT/TRT through my Endo. Both my Endo. and Ortho. check my liver values every 3 months or so and they have never been elevated.
