Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME what does it mean for me
...in terms of lifting?
Basically among many other things i now have CFS which was only recognised as a genuine condition 4 years ago.
side effects i have follow a cyclical fashion between the following...
muscle pain and/or twitching - my body takes ages to recover, upto 14 days per bodypart
joint pain but without swelling or tenderness - constantly aching even after a month off the gym
on-going flu-like feelings - flu but never actually flu if you get me
headaches which may be migrainous in character - slamming headaches that come on in the drop of a hat
problems with balance - makes me feel sick and like i am falling to one side
unrefreshing sleep pattern - hour here, hour there
sore throats / enlarged glands - constantly, especially if i eat Chinese food for some reason
intolerance of temperatures extremes - i sweat like a pig as soon as the sun peeps out
postural hypotension - developed really low blood pressure a few years back
Right now there are no known cures for it, im just wondering if anyone can shed some light who has this or have had experience with it exactly what consequences it has for me in terms of lifting.
advice from another medical practitioner would be great.
its really getting me down, the thought of not being able to lift.
I dont post a hell of a lot but i lurk quite a bit and know some of you guys really know your stuff, any help or input would be really great.
feel like **** right about now.

Also any supplements or protocols you guys can think of to reduce stress induced by workouts would be great.

CFS is very problematic.I have had it most of my life.Since there is no cure,you have to treat it by symptom.You can find a wealth of imformation and personal experiences at immunesupport.com.When I have a little more time,I will p.m. you with my protocol to deal with this disease.

thankyou my friend, ive looked at a lot of logs on the net but none seem to mention dealing with the stress of lifting on the body.
When i lift (for no longer than 45mins) im basically in a coma an hour later, its seriously a mad race to get home to get into bed.
any help much appreciated.

Damn man, sorry to hear about that. I'll see if I can look some things up for you since i'm a web rat. Kinda makes you think twice before coming up with reasons not to hit the gym when guys like you have serious obsticles to overcome and still are able to stay committed.

I experienced this. I wasn't "diagnosed" but im possitive thats what it was and it occured right when I went into boot camp several years ago and I let it just get to me. Today I use a lot of different supplements to combat it and it helps alot. My depression was also getting the best of me from not being able to do much but I feel alot better you can email me if you want.

O-hero, when did you initially discover you had all those problems? You mentioned 4 yrs ago, but was it back then that they started or earlier?
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in a great number of cases is caused by a viral agent, apart from the known ones like epstein-barr virus, cytomegalovirus and some members of the herpes family viruses like HHV6 most prominently, it is also caused by other strange DNA or rNA neuroviruses. I did a short research once about chronic fatigue syndrome while attending immunology classes, i hope i find it.
Your symptoms are typical of the problem though, yet you should mention when this condition started, and how it progresses, whether the fatigue is better some days or not, whether it is alleviated by exercise or not.
Light and progressive exercise should make you feel better as much as i know. You shouldnt overdo it though.
Typically, postural intolerance and unrefreshing sleep happens to people with CFS.
Something you didnt mention however is any neurocognitive problems. Most CFS patients have such problems, for example they have difficulty concentrating or reading and they develop a headache of "new type" as it is called- never before noticed in their lifes. They try to read some text but after aboud 20-30 minutes get headaches of a tension or migraine nature.
Another thing you should check on yourself is whether when you are sitting you feel your head somewhat heavier than normal like you are putting an effort to keep it straight on your vertebrae.
People with CFS have also some sort of impairment or decreased brain blood flow.
You also didnt mention any gastro issues, there are people with chronic fatigue syndrome develop irritable bowel syndrome or other weird gastrointestinal symptoms shortly at some point during the course of the disease.
For many researchers CFS is basically considered a light immune dysfunction case that affects several immunoglobulins, cytokines, CD8 and CD4 cells. Go have an extensive immune assay and i am quite sure you will find some dodgy blood results.
Last but not least, you mention lymph nodes. Where are they located? what is their size(is it constant). Are they mobile and tender or solid strong structures?
You should go check some CFS specialists, i think there is a community over in the internet and it is not so much of an unknown disease nowadays. Lately there was a research going on for an experimental drug named valgancyclovir or smth like that for cfs patients who were found to be a viral cause. i dont know if a spell the drug right. I think it was done my dr. Montoya, you should talk to him if you live in the states.
Other than that you can check herbal substances, they help in some cases, some indian herbs do great jobs, others report echinachea or siberian ginseg and a combination of some other herbs made them feel better. Others say they managed to eradicate CFS from their system with herbs.. I doubt that is so easy to do though, but you can try if you havent.
Last yr i was talking to a guy in the gym who had CFS for like 8 yrs and in his quest of getting better he bought some herbal/vitamin products called earth nutrients from a company named solgar. He said he had never slept or felt any better in his life before. He felt totally energized.
Thats all i can tell you right now, give some more info and i will come back with some thoughts.

Sounds like you catched a plain cold to me.. Or maybe you got some light viral(flulike) infection (you have shivers?). CFS is a multicomplex disease that builds inside you in course of yrs or develops slowly after a long lasting viral infection. It is not that easy and is quite rare to get it.
Drink antioxidants vit C plenty of juice get enough rest and cut down workouts and supplements. See how you ll be in a course of 3 to 5 days.
You will probably be feeling better soon enough

Sounds to me like you have been overdoing it for awhile and have been relying on stims to give you energy. Give your body some time off to rest and the opportunity to recover. Just do some stretching and walking, you won't lose any gains. Take it easy for two weeks, take in Vit C, D, and E, and maybe look into Poseidon. Hope you feel better soon.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), otherwise known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, although not well understood by scientists, is suggested to involve both the central nervous and the neuromuscular systems. The condition can, in fact, worsen with stressful physical activity.
The causes are uncertain, but may be triggered by factors such as infectious agents, stress of the physical or mental type, immune-system dysfunctions, allergies, hormonal problems, deficiencies in certain nutrients, and low blood pressure.
The management of the condition may include correcting nutrient deficiencies and increasing the intake of energy boosters.
Deficient nutrients may include: vitamin B6; glutathione (cellular glutathione levels can be raised n-acetyl-l-cysteine (with at least three time more vitamin C), alpha lipoic acid, whey protein); folate; and essential fatty acids.
Relevant energy boosters may include: Reduced B-nicotanamide dinucleotide (NADH) with CoQ10 (ubiquinol preferred to ubiquinone); acetyl-l-carnitine (for addressing mental fatigue) and propionyl-L-carnitine (for management of general fatigue); magnesium, GLA, and glutamine.
