I am an older guy[57] who has issues with getting up too many times in the night to pee. I have used a wide variety of otc supps to help with this, and I have came to the conclusion that a healty dose of saw palmetto is as effective as anything I have tried...I might occasionally add something else like beta-s, or other things...but I always stick with good old SW-and it is cheap!!!

cheap+effective=win for me!!!

Appreciate the feedback from someone who has tried a number of things.

Eventually, the majority of males will have prostate issues at some point in their lives. Its only a matter of time unfortunately.

As a possible alternative I would suggest looking at Astaxanthin. It has been shown to lower DHT and estrogen while raising T. Also a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Also good for reducing wrinkles in skin by protection from UV rays. The only down side is you should not take it within 12 hours of lifting because it can reduce NO levels. I am over 50 and so far I am liking Asta better than Saw Palmetto. It is more expensive but I like it.

I can understand why people try Saw Palmetto but the underlying problem is too much estrogen, not too much DHT, DHT is the hormone that makes you manly, so the last thing you would want to do is reduce that. Either decrease you estrogen through diet/supps or INCREASE your DHT through diet?supps/medications. Andractim gel is a topical DHT gel is designed specifically for this.

Your physician is aware of this I'd assume, correct?

Interesting. Saw palmetto does inhibit DHT production. For those of us on TRT should SP be avoided? kisaj

yes,I have mentioned it to him, my psa tests come back in normal range...I have a prescription for Viagra and asked for Cialis instead to heIp with this issue, I was told the VA doesn't dispense Cialis only Viagra....I really don't want to deal with prescription meds to treat the nightly frequent urination-like I said In the opening saw palmetto works pretty good at controlling it for me.

How do you dose Astaxanthin and how much?

Unless there is a specific reason related to PSA levels, I certainly wouldn't. It is estrogenic and can affect DHT. Even my dad's prostate doc isn't a fan because of the unknown hormone response that can happen.

Not a fan either. Data is even "iffy" on Prostate. I know Stinging Nettle has better data - not sure on Pygeum or Beta Sitosterol. But I don't like any of them as, like said above, it seems more and more likely that Prostate = Estrogen, and I think DHT makes us what we are.

There are different strengths out there from 4mg to 12 mg. The 4mg will work for just about everybody. If you are trying to combat BPH or want to prevent other DHT sides then the 12mg would be a good choice. Dosing is easy. If you lift at night take it in the morning. If you lift in the morning take it latter in the day. You don't want to take it within 12 hours prior to lifting. Astaxanthin has been shown to scavenge free radicals including NO. The last thing I would want is to have my pump quenched by my anti-oxidants.
